What is Exoderm?

Sodium thiosulfate fights infections that are caused by fungus.Salicylic acid helps the skin absorb sodium thiosulfate.Exoderm is a combination of medicines used to treat tinea versicolor, which appears as white patches.This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Exoderm.

Side effects of Exoderm 

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, and swelling of your throat.There may be other side effects.For medical advice regarding side effects, call your physician. Exoderm should not be used if you have an allergy to sulfa drugs.

Before you take this drug

Exoderm should not be used if you have an allergy to sulfa, sodium thiosulfate, or salicylic acids.Exoderm is not known to harm unborn babies. If you plan to get pregnant or are already pregnant, tell your doctor.Salicylic acid topical and sodium thiosulfate are not known to pass into breast milk. It is also unknown if they could harm a baby who is nursing. You should tell your doctor if you're breastfeeding a child.

How to take Exoderm?

Do not alter the instructions on your prescription. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it for longer.You should wash your hands both before and after using this medication, unless it is to treat an infection of the hand.Wash and dry the affected skin thoroughly before applying this medication.Before each use, shake the lotion thoroughly.Only apply the medication to the affected area. Avoid getting any medication on healthy skin surrounding the treated area.Cover the treated area only if your doctor says so.If this medication gets into your eyes, rinse with water immediately to rinse them clean.Exoderm should be used regularly for maximum benefit. Refill your prescription before you run out.Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as you remember, take the missed dose as soon as possible; if it is close to time for another dose, skip it altogether.Don't use extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Exoderm overdose is unlikely to be harmful. If anyone accidentally swallows the medication, seek emergency medical care or call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Exoderm should not be taken orally. Exoderm should only be used on the skin. This medicine should not be used on open wounds, scraped skin, or skin that is irritated or damaged. Rinse with water if this medicine enters your eyes, nose, or mouth.Exoderm is a medication that should only be used as prescribed by your doctor.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs that you may take orally or even inject are unlikely to have any effect on the salicylic acid and sodium thiosulfate applied topically. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you take, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
