What is Ed-A-Hist DM?

Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine. Dextromethorphan is an effective cough suppressant. Phenylephrine has been proven to be an anticongestant.Ed A-Hist DM is a combination medication that treats the symptoms of cough, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes due to allergies, commonly-spread colds, as well as an illness called the flu.Ed A-Hist DM can't treat coughs that result from smoke, asthma, or the condition known as emphysema.Ed A-Hist DM can be used for other purposes that are not covered in this guideline for medication.

  • A severe headache that causes a lot of pain in your neck or ear.

Common adverse effects of Ed-A-Hist DM can include:

  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry mouth, nose, dry mouth, or throat;
  • The amount of or decrease in urination;
  • Nausea or lack of appetite; diarrhea;
  • Sleep problems (insomnia);

Warnings

Do not take this medication in the event that you've used an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days, for example, isocarboxazid or linezolid, blue injection, or phenelzine rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine.

Prior to use this drug

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for a recommendation on whether this medication is suitable for use if you are:

  • Asthma and COPD coughing with mucus;
  • An obstruction inside your stomach (stomach and intestines);
  • Hypertension, heart disease;
  • Kidney disease or liver failure;
  • Glaucoma;
  • An overly large prostate or urinary problems
  • Excessively active thyroid
  • Pheochromocytoma (an adrenal gland tumor)

Don't use Ed-A-Hist DM. If you've used an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days, A potentially dangerous interaction with a drug could happen. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid linezolid, Methylene blue injection rasagiline, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine, among others.

How to take Ed-A-Hist DM?

Follow the directions on the label or as directed by your physician. The cold or cough medication is meant for short-term use only until the symptoms subside.Always adhere to the directions on the label of the medicine about administering cold or cough medication to children. Do not take the medication solely to induce sleepiness in a child. Death can occur due to the misapplication of cough or cold medications in infants and young children.Take care when measuring liquid medicines. Make use of the syringe for dosing or a dosage measuring device (not the kitchen spoon).Dissolve the effervescent tablets into at least 4 ounces of water. Mix and drink the mixture immediately. Add an additional splash of water to the glass, stir slowly, and then drink immediately.

Do not use for longer than seven consecutive days.Call your doctor in the event that your symptoms don't improve after seven days or if you experience a high fever, rash, or headache.If you require surgical intervention or other medical examinations, notify your doctor or surgeon before the appointment time if you took this medication within the last few days.Place it in a cool, dry place far from heat and moisture.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As Ed-A-Hist DM is only used in cases of need, it is possible that you are not on a schedule for dosing. Do not miss any doses when it's time to take the next dose. Do not take two doses in one go.

What should be avoided?

Consuming alcohol while taking this medication may cause unwanted side effects.Avoid driving or engaging in hazardous activities until you are aware of the effects of this medication on your body. The way you react could be impaired.Consult a physician or pharmacist prior to using any other cold or cough medicines that may have similar components.Beware of becoming dehydrated or overheated during workouts and in hot temperatures. This medication may reduce the sweating and leave you more susceptible to suffering from heat stroke.

Interaction with other drugs

Do not take this medication in conjunction with other medications that can result in drowsiness or slowing the rate of breathing (such as opioids, a muscle relaxer, or medication that treats anxiety and seizures). Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medication, which includes prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal remedies.
