Dytuss

Generic name: Diphenhydramine is the
Drug Classes: anticholinergic antiemetics; anticholinergic antiparkinson agents; antihistamines.

What is Dytuss?

Dytuss, an antihistamine, is used for sneezing and other allergy or cold symptoms. Dystus can also be used to treat motion sickness and induce sleep. It is also prescribed to treat certain symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. Sleep medicine should not be given to children aged under 12. Diphenhydramine is available in many different brands and forms. This leaflet does not list all brands. Dytus can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Dytuss

If you observe any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives or swelling in your lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!

Dystonia can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe sleepiness

  • Urination that is painful or difficult

Elderly adults may experience more common side effects like dry mouth and constipation.

Dytus side effects may include:

  • Drowsiness;

  • Dry eyes and blurred vision

  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat

  • Reduced urination

  • Constipation;

  • Feeling restless or excited, especially in children

  • After using nighttime for extended use, you may experience feelings of fatigue or have an effect similar to having had too much to drink: "hangover".

Warnings

Dytuss should be used exactly as instructed. Dytuss, taken in excess, can cause serious heart problems and seizures. It may even lead to death. This medicine should not be used to induce sleep in children under 12 years of age.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to Dytuss, then it is best not to use the product.

Have You Suffered From Any of These Conditions:

  • Urination or prostate problems

  • Asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), and other breathing disorders;

  • Glaucoma;

  • A thyroid disorder.

Before using this medication, consult your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing. Dystus can slow down breast milk production.

How to take Dytuss?

Stay true to the directions on the label or as given by a medical provider; Dytuss should only be taken for short term relief until symptoms subside. Excessive dystonia may lead to serious cardiovascular issues and even seizures, comas or death. Follow the directions on the label when giving Dytus as directed to children. Do not use this medicine to put a child to sleep. Misuse of antihistamines can lead to death in very young children. Take Dytuss for motion sickness. 30 minutes prior to a situation where you may experience motion sickness. (For example, a long ride in a car, an airplane or boat trip, rides at amusement parks, etc.) Take this medicine at mealtimes and before bed for as long as you are in a situation that causes motion sickness. Take Dytuss 30 minutes prior to bedtime as a sleep aid. The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed. Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use the provided dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon). Only remove an oral disintegrating tablet when you're ready to use it. Place the tablet in your mouth without chewing. As the tablet dissolves, you should swallow it several times.

If your condition is not improving after using Dytuss or you develop a fever, a headache, or a skin rash, call your doctor. Use Dytus for no longer than two weeks for sleep disorders or seven days for cold and allergy symptoms. Dystus may affect allergy skin tests. Inform any doctor that you see about Dytuss. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Dytus can be used as needed, and you don't need to follow a schedule.If it is almost time for a dose, be sure to skip any missed dosage.Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. A diphenhydramine overdose can be fatal. Overdose symptoms include agitation and hallucinations.

What should be avoided?

Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how Dytus affects you. You may be unable to react properly. Diphenhydramine can be exacerbated by alcohol. Before using any other medication that contains Dytuss, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You can use this medicine for sleeping, allergy or cold symptoms, or anti-itch creams on your skin. Overdosing on this medication can lead to death.

Interaction with other drug

Before using Dytuss, consult your doctor or pharmacist. This is especially important if you are taking any medications that may cause drowsiness, such as sleep medication, opioids, muscle relaxers, medicines for anxiety, or seizures.Inform your doctor of all medicines you are currently taking as well as those you are starting or discontinuing use for, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal products - this list doesn't represent all possible interactions!
