What is DesOwen?

Desonide helps to reduce inflammation. DesOwen is used for the treatment of inflammation and eczema, or skin disorders that respond to steroids. DesOwen can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of DesOwen

If you're experiencing difficulty breathing, hives or swelling of lips, face, throat or tongue as signs of allergies - symptoms could include difficulty in taking deep breaths; difficulty eating; difficulties with coordination (thinking clearly; speaking articulately and so forth); swelling lip, face or throat area or tongue area

DesOwen may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Skin conditions are worsening;
  • Redness, heat, swelling, oozing, or severe irritation on any skin treated
  • Blurred vision, pain in the eyes, tunnel vision, or halos around lights
  • High blood sugar: increased thirst and urination Dry Mouth, Fruity Breath Odor
  • Possible signs that you have absorbed DesOwen via your skin include: weight gain, especially in the face, upper back, and torso; slow wound healing or discoloration; increased hair on your body; muscle weakness or fatigue; nausea or diarrhea.

Children's growth can be affected by steroid medication. If your child's growth isn't normal while taking this medication, tell your doctor.

Some of the common side effects associated with DesOwen include:

  • The skin may sting or burn after treatment.
  • Skin irritation is characterized by redness, itching, or hardening.
  • Dry, oily, or scaly skin
  • You may experience swelling in your feet or hands.
  • Acne, stretch marks;
  • Redness around the hair follicles.

There may be other side effects. Call your physician if experiencing side effects; otherwise contact FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 and report your side effects directly.

Warnings

Please read all instructions provided with your medication carefully and read all labels or packages that contain instructions before taking. Inform your doctors about your allergies and medical conditions. Also, tell them which medicines you are using.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to desonide, then it is best not to use this product.

If you've ever:

  • Any type of skin infection
  • Diabetes;
  • A skin reaction after taking steroid medication

Desowen is unknown to cause harm to an unborn child. Inform your doctor that you're pregnant. Breastfeeding may be unsafe while taking this medication.Make sure to speak to your physician regarding potential risks before beginning.Avoid areas where the mouth of a baby may be in contact with desonide if you apply it to your chest. This medicine should not be given to children without consulting a doctor. This medicine is only for adults over 18 years old. Children may experience more adverse reactions with this medicine due to being more absorbent through their skin than adults do.

How to take DesOwen?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all the directions. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Take it only by mouth. Only apply topical medicines to the skin. If this medication gets into your mouth or eyes, rinse with water. Before each use, shake the lotion. After using desonide, wash your hands, except if you're using it to treat your skin. Rub a thin layer on the affected skin. You should not use this medication to cover a wide area of the skin unless you have been told by your doctor. Cover the area of skin that has been treated only if your doctor says so. The amount of medicine that is absorbed by your skin can be increased if you cover the treated area. This may have harmful side effects. Use only loose-fitting or plastic diapers if you're treating your diaper area. The medicine should only be used for a short time (between 2 and 4 weeks). Dosage instructions should be followed very closely by your doctor. Once your symptoms have been controlled, you should discontinue using the medication. If your symptoms don't improve or worsen, seek medical help immediately. Keep the bottle or tube at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. When not in use, keep the tube or bottle tightly closed.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are close to your next dose, skip the missed one. Never apply two doses at once.

What happens if I overdose?

If anyone accidentally swallows the medicine, seek emergency medical care or contact the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. DesOwen may cause thinning of the skin or bruising. It can also lead to changes in body weight (particularly in your neck, face, back, and waist), acne, facial hair growth, menstrual issues, impotence, or a loss of sexual interest.

What should be avoided?

DesOwen should not be used in the eyes, mouth, or nose. Use DesOwen only after consulting your physician to determine the severity of any skin conditions.

Interaction with other drug

Your other medications won't interfere with the topical medicine you apply directly to your skin. Many drugs interact. Inform your health care providers of all the medicines that you take, including prescription medicines and over-the-counter medications.
