
What is Desloratadine and pseudoephedrine?
Desloratadine combined with pseudoephedrine treats sneezing and other allergy symptoms, as well as the common flu. Adults and children over 12 years of age can use desloratadine or pseudoephedrine. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of pseudoephedrine and desloratadine.
Side effects of Desloratadine and pseudoephedrine
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of your lips, face, or throat.
This medicine can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.
- Tremors;
- Symptoms of severe weakness
- Heartbeats irregular;
- A seizure;
- A severe skin reaction—fever, skin redness, and small pimples.
Side effects of pseudoephedrine and desloratadine may include:
- Drowsiness, dizziness;
- Nausea, nausea, and loss of appetite
- Sleep problems (insomnia);
- Dry mouth Sore throat
There may be other side effects. Call your physician immediately if any side effects arise, and report any unusual behaviors to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 for reporting purposes.

Warnings
If you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days (such as isocarboxazid or linezolid), do not take desloratadine or pseudoephedrine.
Before you take this drug
This medicine should not be used if:
- Narrow-angle glaucoma;
- Severe coronary heart disease;
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Other urination issues or bladder obstruction.
If you've taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days, do not take desloratadine or pseudoephedrine. A dangerous drug interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (phenelzine injection), rasagiline (selegiline), methylene blue injection, tranylcypromine, and others.
Inform your physician of any of the following issues:
- Kidney disease
- Glaucoma;
- Heart disease, high blood pressure
- A seizure, either in yourself or a member of your family;
- Diabetes;
- Thyroid disorder;
- An enlarged prostrate.
Desloratadine or pseudoephedrine shouldn't be given to children younger than 12 years of age. This medicine is not known to harm an unborn child.Inform your physician immediately if you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, or contemplating becoming pregnant. If you are using pseudoephedrine or desloratadine, it is not recommended that you breastfeed.
How to take Desloratadine and pseudoephedrine?
Follow the instructions on the label or those prescribed by your physician. Cold and allergy medicines are only to be used for a short time until symptoms disappear. Do not chew, crush or break your tablet. If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days or you have a high fever, call your doctor. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.
Details on dosage
Adult dose for Allergic Rhinitis:
Take one tablet every 12 hours.
Maximum dose: 1 tablet twice daily.

Use to relieve seasonal allergic symptoms
The usual pediatric dose for allergic rhinitis is:
Twelve and older
Take one tablet every 12 hours.
Maximum dose: 1 tablet twice daily.

What happens if I miss the dose?
Desloratadine is only used as needed. You may not have a regular schedule for dosage. If you have a regular schedule, you should take your medicine as soon as you can. However, if you're almost due for the next dose, you may want to skip the missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. An overdose can cause anxiety, difficulty sleeping, headaches, vomiting, weakness of the muscles, fast or pounding pulses, hallucinations, or shallow breathing.
What should be avoided?
You may experience blurred vision or impaired reactions when taking pseudoephedrine and desloratadine. Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine will affect you. Alcohol consumption can have side effects when taken with this medication. Before using any over-the-counter medicines, consult your doctor or pharmacist. These medicines may contain similar ingredients to desloratadine or pseudoephedrine.
Interaction with other drug
This effect can be worsened by combining desloratadine with pseudoephedrine or other drugs that cause drowsiness. Before taking an opioid, sleeping pill, muscle relaxer, or medication for anxiety, depression, or seizures, consult your doctor.
Before using any other medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist about desloratadine.
- Any other cold or allergy medication
- Ketoconazole;
- Reserpine;
- An antibiotic—azithromycin (Zithromax, Z-Pak), erythromycin;
- Digoxin, Digitalis, and Methyldopa are all heart or blood pressure medications.
