What is Delsym Cough and Sore Throat?

Delsym Cough & Sore Throat contains a mixture of medicines that treat symptoms such as cough, swollen throat headaches, fevers, minor aches and pains, or fevers caused by irritation to the throat or the cold. Delsym Cough & Sore Throat does not treat a sore throat or cough caused by smoking. Delsym Cough and Sore Throat can also be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side Effects of Delsym Cough and Sore Throat

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek medical help immediately: difficulty breathing, hives or swelling on lips, face throat or tongue. Acetaminophen can cause severe reactions in some cases. This is even true if you've taken it and experienced no adverse reaction. Call your doctor immediately if the skin becomes red or you develop a rash.

This medicine can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Redness or swelling
  • New or worsening symptoms
  • An ongoing cough that is accompanied by a headache or rash;
  • Liver problems: loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, itching, and dark urine.

Some of the common side effects associated with Delsym Cough and Sore Throat include:

  • Upset stomach;
  • Confusion;
  • Drowsiness.

Warnings

Delsym, cough, and sore throat should be avoided if you suffer from severe liver diseases. Carefully follow all instructions regarding how to take this medication.Overdoses of acetaminophen may cause liver damage or death. If you experience nausea, upper abdominal pain, itching, or loss of appetite, or if your urine is dark or your stools are clay-colored, call your doctor immediately. If you notice skin redness, a rash, or blisters that are peeling off and spreading on your body, stop taking the medicine immediately and contact your doctor.

Before you take this drug

If you're allergic to acetaminophen or have any of the following:

  • Severe liver disease
  • If you've taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days, such as isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (phenelzine injection), rasagiline (selegiline), or tranylcypromine,

If you suffer from:

  • A persistent cough or a mucus-filled cough
  • If you have liver disease or drink three or more alcoholic drinks per day,

Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or nursing. Phenylalanine can be found in artificially sweetened liquid medicines. If you have phenylketonuria, check the label of your medication.

How to take Delsym Cough and Sore Throat?

Adhere to the instructions listed on your package or from a healthcare professional.Acetaminophen can cause liver damage or death. Use cold or cough medication only until symptoms have cleared up. When treating children, only use the dose-measuring dropper that is included with the pediatric formulation. Follow the instructions on the label of the medication. Before swallowing, chewable tablets must first be chewed thoroughly. Measuring liquid medication is important. Dosing devices are available. If you experience a prolonged fever, pain, or cough that lasts longer than five days or gets worse over time, call your doctor. Tell your doctor or surgeon if you've taken Delsym Cough & Sore Throat in the last few days. Keep away from heat and moisture. Liquid medicines should not be allowed to freeze.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You may not have a regular dosing regimen because this medication is only used as needed.IF it is almost time for your next dose, simply forget the one you missed and take only what is due at that moment.Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Acetaminophen overdoses can cause liver damage or death. Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and sweating are all early signs. Other symptoms include dark urine and skin or eye yellowing, upper stomach pains, and upper abdominal discomfort.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol is harmful to your liver. Alcohol can cause liver damage. Before using any medicine that contains dextromethorphan or acetaminophen (sometimes abbreviated APAP), consult your doctor. Acetaminophen overdoses can be fatal. Delsym, cough, and sore throat can affect your ability to drive or perform hazardous activities. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

Delsym cough and sore throat may be affected by other drugs, such as prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Inform your doctor of all the other medications you take.
