What is DayQuil Cold & Flu?

Acetaminophen relieves pain and lowers the fever. Dextromethorphan works as a cough suppressant. It works by affecting the signals that are sent to the brain. Phenylephrine shrinks the blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated vessels in the nasal passages can lead to congestion. DayQuil is a combination of medicines used to treat headaches and other symptoms such as fever, body pains, congestion, sinusitis, nasal stuffiness, or rhinitis caused by allergies. It can also be taken for the common cold and the flu. The DayQuil Cold & Flu does not treat coughs caused by tobacco or asthma. DayQuil Cold & Flu can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of DayQuil Cold & Flu

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing or swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue. Acetaminophen can cause severe reactions in some people, even when they have never had a reaction before. Call your doctor immediately if the skin becomes red or you develop a rash. If blisters form and you peel them off, stop taking this medication.

DayQuil Cold and Flu can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:

  • Chest pain with a fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat;
  • Experiences serious dizziness that seems as if they could make one lose consciousness;
  • Mood changes, confusion, hallucinations, seizure (convulsions);
  • Little or no urinating is acceptable.
  • Upper stomach pain; itching; dark urine or clay-colored stools. Jaundice.
  • Symptoms of dangerously high blood pressure include severe headaches, blurred or buzzing visions, anxiety, and chest pain.

Side effects that may occur with dayquil Cold and Flu include:

  • Dizziness, weakness, mild headache;
  • A stomachache or diarrhea.
  • Dry throat or nose;
  • Feeling nervous, restless, or irritable;
  • Sleep problems (insomnia).

There may be other side effects.Call your physician if experiencing side effects; alternatively call 1-800-FDA-1088 to report these.

Warnings

You should not take this medication if you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. Drug interactions can occur. The MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (rasagiline), selegiline (tranylcypromine), and rasagiline. Don't take this medicine in excess. Overdosing on acetaminophen may cause liver damage or death. Acetaminophen can cause severe reactions to the skin in rare instances. If you notice skin redness, a rash, or blistering that causes peeling and blistering, stop taking the medicine immediately and contact your doctor.

Before you take this drug

If you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days, do not take this medication. It is possible that a dangerous drug interaction will occur. There are several MAO inhibitors, including isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (phenelzine), rasagiline (selegiline), and tranylcypromine. This medication should not be used if you have an allergy to dextromethorphan, phenylephrine, or acetaminophen. If you are suffering from any other health conditions or symptoms, you should consult your doctor before taking this medication.

  • Alcoholism, or if more than three alcoholic drinks are consumed per day.
  • High blood pressure, coronary heart disease
  • Asthma, or Cough with mucus or cough due to smoking.
  • Diabetes;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Overactive thyroid
  • Epilepsy
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • Other urination issues or bladder obstruction.

DayQuil is safe for pregnant women. However, it has not been proven to harm an unborn child. If you are pregnant, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. Acetaminophen and dextromethorphan can pass through breast milk, which may be harmful to a baby who is nursing. Decongestants can also reduce breast milk production. If you're breastfeeding, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. Phenylalanine can be found in cold medicines that are artificially sweetened. Check the label of your medication to determine if it contains phenylalanine if you suffer from phenylketonuria.

How to take DayQuil Cold and Flu?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use only the recommended dose. Do not exceed it. This medication is typically taken for only a few days until the symptoms disappear. Don't take this medicine in excess. Acetaminophen can cause liver damage or death if taken in excess. Children younger than four years should not take this medication. Ask a doctor first before you give cough medicine or cold medicine to your child. Children as young as 4 years old can die from misuse. Do not use a normal table spoon to measure liquid medicines. Use a dose-measuring cup or spoon. Ask your pharmacist for a dosage-measuring device if you don't have one. One packet should be dissolved in 4 ounces or more of water. Mix this powder and water together, then drink it all immediately. Avoid taking it for more than seven days at a time. Tell your doctor or surgeon if this medication has been taken within the last few days and if you are going to need medical testing or surgery. Keep away from heat and moisture. Liquid medications should never be allowed to freeze.

What happens if I miss the dose?

DayQuil Cold and Flu can be taken as needed. You may not have a regular dosing regimen. Take the missed dosage as soon as possible if you take this medication regularly.If your next dose is imminent, make a mental note not to take the missed dosage. You should not take more medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line on 1-800-222-1222 if experiencing symptoms related to poison, or seek emergency medical treatment immediately. Acetaminophen overdoses can lead to death. Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, excessive sweating, and confusion or weakness are the first symptoms of an overdose of acetaminophen. Other symptoms include dark urine and yellowing skin or whites of the eyes. The side effects of this guide may include some severe cases of overdose symptoms.

What should be avoided?

Before using other pain relievers, sleep aids, or allergy medications, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Many combination medications contain acetaminophen, also known as APAP. Taking some products with each other can result in an overdose of acetaminophen, which is fatal. The medication can affect your ability to think or react. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that involves being alert. Alcohol is not recommended. You may be at greater risk for liver damage if you take acetaminophen.

Interaction with other drug

DayQuil Cold & Flu may also interact with other drugs, such as prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines that you are currently taking and those you have started or stopped using.
