What is Darifenacin?

Darifenacin can reduce muscle spasms in the bladder and urinary system. Darifenacin treats symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as frequent urination or urgency and urinary incontinence. Darifenacin can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Darifenacin

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

Darifenacin may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:

  • Constipation or severe stomach pain
  • Confusion, hallucinations;
  • Little or no urinating is acceptable.
  • You may experience pain or burning after urinating.
  • Signs of dehydration include feeling very thirsty, hot, or unable to urinate.

Darifenacin can cause the following side effects:

  • Nausea, indigestion;
  • Constipation;
  • Headache, dizziness;
  • Dry Mouth;
  • Blurred vision

Warnings

Darifenacin should not be taken if your narrow-angle eye disease is untreated or uncontrolled, if a stomach disorder causes delayed emptying, or if there are problems emptying the bladder.

Before you take this drug

Darifenacin should not be taken if:

  • Untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
  • A stomach disorder causing delayed emptying;

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that darifenacin will not harm you:

  • Glaucoma;
  • Liver disease
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • A blockage of the intestines or stomach;
  • A muscle disorder, such as myasthenia gravis
  • If you have a very weak urine stream or little urine,

FDA pregnancy class C There is no information on whether darifenacin can harm an unborn child. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, be sure to inform your physician as soon as possible. Darifenacin is not known to pass into breast milk or to harm a baby who is nursing. You should tell your doctor if you're breastfeeding a child.

How to take Darifenacin?

Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Your doctor may alter the dosage regularly in order to achieve maximum effect. Please take this medication only as instructed; do not exceed or prolong its intake beyond what has been specified by your physician. Darifenacin is taken with or without food. No longer chew or crush the extended-release tablets. Take it as a whole. Store away from moisture, heat, and light at room temperature.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for urinary incontinence:

Initial dose: oral 7.5 mg once daily
Maintenance dose: You can increase the dosage to 15 mg once daily orally as soon as two weeks after you start therapy.
Comments:
This medication may be taken with or without food.
The tablet should not be chewed or divided.
Use: To treat overactive bladder symptoms, including urge incontinence and urgency.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as you become aware that you missed a dose, take it immediately. If your next scheduled dosage is approaching soon afterward, skip any missed ones altogether and wait to take another scheduled one instead - do not double up on medication to compensate for missing one!

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. A high dose can cause visual problems.

What should be avoided?

Darifenacin can cause blurred vision, and it may affect your ability to think or react. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that requires you to be alert and to see clearly.

Interaction with other drug

Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications or if you will stop taking them during treatment with Darifenacin.

  • Clarithromycin;
  • Flecainide;
  • Thioridazine;
  • An antidepressant—amitriptyline, clomipramine, desipramine, doxepin, imipramine, nefazodone, nortriptyline;
  • Antifungal medicine—itraconazole, ketoconazole
  • Hiv or aids medicine: nelfinavir, ritonavir.
