What is Citric acid and sodium citrate?

Citric acid and sodium citrate are a combination of medicines that help make your urine less alkaline. Citric acid and sodium chloride are sometimes called urine alkalizers. Before you take this drug

If you are:

  • Severe kidney disease
  • Reduced urination or inability to urinate;

How to take Citric acid and sodium citrate?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed.Take this medicine before bedtime and after eating. Do not forget to follow your doctor's instructions.Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use the provided dosing device or a medicine dosage measuring device (not a spoon). Mix the medicine with at least four ounces of juice or water. Mix the mixture and drink it immediately. Pour a little water into the glass and swirl it gently. Drink immediately.Take plenty of fluids when taking sodium citrate and citric acid.It may be necessary to follow a specific diet. You should follow the instructions given by your doctor or dietitian. Learn which foods you should eat and avoid in order to control your condition.You'll need to have frequent blood and urine tests.Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container away from moisture or heat.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What should be avoided?

Avoid taking an anti-acid 2 hours before or following the consumption of citric acid. Antacids containing aluminium can cause serious side effects when combined with sodium citrate or citric acid.

Citric acid and sodium chlorite may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you will begin or stop using.
