What is Centany?
Mupirocin prevents the growth of bacteria on your skin. Centany is used for treating skin infections like impetigo or "Staph" skin infections. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for centany.
Side effects of Centany
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, dizziness, rapid or pounding pulses, wheezing or difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, seek emergency medical attention.
Centany can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:
- Severe abdominal pain, diarrhoea, watery or bleeding;
- If you experience severe itching or a rash on the treated skin, please contact us.
- Unusual skin blistering and peeling
- Any signs of a new infection of the skin
Some of the common side effects that Centany can cause include:
- Burning, stinging;
- Itching

Before you take this drug
If you have an allergy to mupirocin, then Centany is not for you.
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Centany will be safe for you:
- Kidney disease is a serious condition.
Centany should not be used on children without medical advice. The cream is not recommended for children younger than three months. The ointment can be used on children as young as two months. This medicine is not known to harm an unborn child. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant. The mupirocin topically is not known to pass into breast milk or if it can harm a baby who is nursing. Inform your doctor if your baby is breastfed. If you have applied this medicine to the breast or nipple area, make sure that you wash it thoroughly before breastfeeding your baby.
How to take Centany?
Do not alter the instructions on your prescription. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage or take it longer than indicated. Take it only by mouth. Topical medicines are only to be used on the skin. Rinse your mouth and eyes with water if you accidentally get this medicine in them.
After applying Centany, wash your hands. Dry and clean the affected area. Apply a small amount to the affected area using a cotton swab, gauze pad, or other suitable material. Do not spread Centany on large areas of skin. Centany is typically applied three times per day over a period of 10 days. Only use a small quantity of the medication. Cover the treated area with sterile gauze. Cover the treated areas only with sterile gauze pads. Do not use bandages, plastic wraps, or any other coverings that prevent air circulation. If your symptoms don't improve in 3 to 5 days or if you notice that your skin condition is getting worse, call your doctor. Do not stop taking the medicine before it is completely cleared. You may experience improvement in your symptoms before the infection has completely resolved. You may increase your chances of a second infection resistant to anti-biotics if you skip doses. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. When not in use, keep the tube tightly closed.
What happens if I miss the dose?
As soon as you recall your error, take immediate steps to administer any missed dose. If it's almost time to take your next dose, skip the missed dose. Don't use extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
A cocaine overdose is unlikely to be harmful. Should any medication accidentally be consumed by accident, seek emergency medical attention immediately or call Poison Help immediately at 1-800-222-1222 for advice and help.
What should be avoided?
Antibiotics can cause diarrhea. This could be an indication of a new illness. Call your doctor if you experience diarrhoea that is bloody or watery. You should only take anti-diarrhoea medication if your doctor has prescribed it. Avoid getting Centany into your eyes, nose, or mouth. Use a separate product called Mupirocin Nasal for the nose. Centany can only be used on the skin. Do not use other medications to treat the same areas that you have treated with Centany, unless you are told by your doctor.
Interaction with other drug
Mupirocin applied topically is unlikely to be affected by other drugs taken orally or injected. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform healthcare providers of any medications you are currently taking, including vitamins and herbal remedies.
