What is Carmol-20?
This leaflet does not list all the brands or forms of topical urea available. Carmol-20 is used on the skin to soften rough, dry skin that can be caused by conditions like eczema or psoriasis. This medicine can also be used to soften toenails and fingernails that are damaged so they can easily be removed without surgery. Carmol-20 can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Carmol-20
If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, seek medical help immediately: hives, difficulty breathing or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat.
Carmol-20 can cause serious side effects. Carmol-20 should be stopped immediately, and you should consult your doctor if:
- Severe redness or irritation on the treated skin.
Carmol-20 can cause the following side effects:
- Itching is mild.
- Mild burning or stinging.

Before you take this drug
If you have an allergy to Carmol-20, then it is best not to use it. FDA pregnancy class C There is no information on whether Carmol-20 can harm an unborn child. If you are pregnant, do not take Carmol-20 without consulting your doctor. Urea topical does not appear to pass into breast milk or cause harm for infants who are nursing; therefore if you are breastfeeding an infant and considering using this medication without first consulting with a healthcare provider.
How to take Carmol-20?
Carmol-20 comes in a variety of forms for application to the scalp or skin (creams, lotions, gels, foams, etc.).Follow all instructions contained on your label or as provided by your physician. Use the recommended dose and do not exceed it.
Carmol-20 is not to be taken by mouth. Carmol-20 should only be used on the skin. Rinse with water if this medication enters your eyes, mouth, nose, rectum, or vagina. Before treating skin or nails, wash with a mild cleanser or soap. Carmol-20 works best when the skin or nails to be treated are slightly dampened before the medication is applied.
Apply a thin coating of the medicine to the affected skin. Rub it as thoroughly as you can. Avoid getting Carmol-20 on the skin or cuticles when applying it to the nails. After waiting a moment to let your medicine dry completely, apply generously over each nail. Depending on what your physician advises you can cover with bandages as an additional preventive measure.After a few days, the treated nail can be removed easily.
Shake Carmol-20 Foam before every use. Shake other forms of the medicine before using them. Please follow all the instructions on the medicine label. After applying the medicine, wash your hands with soap or water, unless it is to treat your skin.
If your symptoms don't improve or worsen while taking Carmol-20, call your doctor. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. When not in use, keep the container tightly closed. The foam canister should be kept away from flames or heat. If the canister gets too warm, it may explode. Empty foam canisters should not be punctured or burned.
What happens if I miss the dose?
As soon as you recall, take the missed dose. If your next scheduled dosage is approaching, skip the missed dose. You should not take extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.
What should be avoided?
Carmol-20 should not be used on areas with open wounds, burned skin, or swollen tissue. Rinse with water if this medication enters your eyes, mouth, nose, rectum, or vagina.
Interaction with other drug
The urea applied topically is unlikely to be affected by other drugs that you may take orally or even inject. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you take, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
