What is Capsaicin and diclofenac (topical)?

Capsaicin, the active ingredient that gives chilli peppers their heat, is found in them. Capsaicin can be found in creams and lotions intended to alleviate muscle or joint discomfort.Diclofenac (NSAID) is a nonsteroidal analgesic drug.

Capsaicin diclofenac topical is a combination medication used to treat pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints caused by osteoarthritis. Capsaicin and diclofenac are not effective for treating pain anywhere else in the body. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for diclofenac and capsaicin.

Side effects of Capsaicin and diclofenac (topical)

If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as sneezing, running or stuffy noses, hives or difficulty breathing, or swelling in the face or throat, or a severe reaction to your skin (fever or sore throat with burning eyes, or skin pain or blistering), seek emergency medical attention.

When diclofenac and capsaicin are applied topically, serious side effects may occur. However, if it enters your bloodstream, the medication can cause serious problems.Should any of these symptoms appear, seek emergency medical help immediately.

This medicine can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • A skin rash is a rash on the skin, regardless of how mild it may be.
  • Rapid weight gain, swelling, and shortness of breath even with mild exercise;
  • Signs of stomach bleeding include bloody or tarry stool, vomiting that looks like coffee, or coughing up blood.
  • Liver problems: loss of appetite, pain in the upper right corner of the stomach, fatigue, itching dark urine, clay-coloured stools, jaundice
  • If you have kidney problems, it could be that your urine is not as frequent, or you are experiencing swelling of the feet or ankles or feeling tired.
  • Low red blood cells (anaemia): pale skin, unusual fatigue, feeling lightheaded or hort of breath,, cold hands and/or feet

Side effects of diclofenac and capsaicin may include:

  • If you experience skin irritation, such as a rash, blistering, tingling, or itching where the medicine has been applied,
  • Dryness or hardening of treated skin

Warnings

Diclofenac may increase the risk of a fatal stroke or heart attack. Diclofenac and capsaicin should not be taken before or after heart bypass surgery. Diclofenac can also cause fatal stomach or intestinal bleeding.

Before you take this drug

Diclofenac may increase your risk of a fatal heart attack or stroke, even if there are no risk factors. This medicine should not be taken before or immediately after heart bypass surgery.

Diclofenac can also cause fatal stomach or intestinal bleeding. You may not be aware of these conditions if you use diclofenac and capsaicin, particularly if you are older.

This medicine should not be used if you're allergic to diclofenac or capsaicin or have had an asthma episode or severe allergic reaction following aspirin.

Report any of the following to your doctor:

  • Heart condition high blood-pressure high cholesterol, diabetes, or if you are a smoker;
  • A heart attack, stroke, or blood clot
  • Stomach ulcers or bleeding
  • Asthma;
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Fluid retention.

Nsaids during pregnancy may cause kidney or heart problems for the baby.

Breastfeeding may not be possible while taking this medication. You should ask your doctor if there are any risks. The use of this medicine by those under 18 is not recommended.

How to take Capsaicin and diclofenac (topical)?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all directions. Follow the directions on the label. Do not swallow. Capsaicin diclofenac and capsaicin are only for skin use. Rinse your mouth and eyes with water if this medicine accidentally gets into them.

Apply to wounds that are not open or on sunburned, chapped, or irritated skin. Avoid covering treated skin or exposing it to heat, such as from a sauna, hot tub, or heating pad.

Only apply the solution to dry, clean skin. Spread the solution on the sides, front, and back of the knee. After applying the medicine, wash your hands. Wait 30 minutes or more before bathing or showering. Do not apply any skin products or cosmetics until the solution has completely dried. Don't allow anyone to touch the area where you have applied your medicine.

Capsaicin may cause a burning feeling wherever it's applied. This burning sensation should lessen with time and regular use. If you experience severe burning, pain, swelling, or blistering, then seek medical attention immediately. Get medical help immediately if you experience serious burning, pain, swelling or blistering.If you use this medication over an extended period of time, additional tests may be required from time to time.

Call your doctor if your arthritis symptoms do not improve after seven days of treatment or worsen after initially improving over several days.Store at room temperature and protect from moisture and heat sources. Capsaicin and diclofenac solutions are flammable. Do not use near-high heat or an open flame. Do not smoke until the gel has set completely onto your skin.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Since capsaicin and diclofenac are used when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip any missed ones as these should not be used twice at the same time.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or contact the Poison Help Line immediately if anyone has accidentally swallowed poisonous substance, especially if this was done unknowingly. They can reach them at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Avoid subjecting treated skin to heat, sunlight or tanning beds as much as possible. Take caution not to bathe or shower within 30 minutes prior or post application of capsaicin and diclofenac cream on the skin. Also, avoid vigorous exercise. Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Avoid drinking alcohol. Increased stress may increase your risk of stomach bleeding. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using other medicines for pain, fever, swelling, or cold or flu symptoms.Similar drugs to diclofenac may include ingredients similar to aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen or naproxen.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your physician of all medications taken, especially:

  • Cyclosporine;
  • Lithium;
  • Methotrexate;
  • A blood thinner (Warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven);
  • Heart or blood pressure medications, including diuretics or "water pills", may include diuretics.
  • Steroid medicine (prednisone and others).
