Generic name: nefazodone” ne-FAZ-oh’done [ne-FAZ-o-done]
Class of drugs: phenylpiperazine antidepressants

It is believed that the Serzone brand name was taken off the market across the U.S. If the generic versions of this product are approved by the FDA, it is possible that there are alternatives that are generic.

What is Serzone?

Serzone can be described as an antidepressant drug. It alters the chemical balance within the brain, which can be imbalanced and cause depression.

Serzone can be used to ease symptoms of depression like feelings of sadness, guilt, or guilt; a loss of interest in daily activities; changes in appetite; fatigue; excessive sleep or being in a haze; as well as thoughts of suicide or death.Serzone can also be employed for other purposes than those in this guideline.

Important information about Serzone

Do not use Serzone in the event that you've previously taken an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAOI) like isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the past fourteen days, or if you have taken terfenadine (Seldane Seldane-D), astemizole (Hismanal) (MAOI), cisapride (Propulsid), pimozide (Orap), triazolam (Halcion), and carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR, Epitol, and Carbatrol).

In a few instances, the treatment of Serzone has been linked to severe liver issues, often leading to liver transplants or even death. Consult your physician immediately in the event of yellowing or sagging of the eyes or skin or unusually dark urine; the loss of appetite for up to a week; or more extreme nausea or stomach discomfort. These could be signs of liver issues.

Be cautious when operating machinery, driving, or engaging in other risky tasks. Serzone can cause dizziness or vertigo. If you feel dizzy or drowsy, avoid these activities.The risk of dizziness is higher when you get up from a lying or sitting position. Slowly rise to avoid the risk of falling and dizziness.Do not drink alcohol while taking Serzone. Alcohol can cause drowsiness and dizziness when taking Serzone.

Prior to use this drug

Do not consume Serzone if you are currently using any of the following substances:

  • A monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) like isocarboxazid (Marplan) or phenelzine (Nardil) and tranylcypromine (Parnate);
  • Terfenadine (Seldane, Seldane-D);
  • Astemizole (Hismanal);
  • Cisapride (Propulsid);
  • Pimozide (Orap);
  • Triazolam (Halcion);
  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR, Epitol, and Carbatrol).

These medications can trigger dangerous interactions with Serzone, which can lead to seizures, heart problems, or even death.

Before you take this medication, inform your doctor if you suffer from

  • Heart disease, low or high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats
  • Seizures;
  • Experienced manic episodes (extreme excitation or agitation);
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease.

There is a chance that you won't be allowed to take Serzone or will need a dosage adjustment or a specific monitoring treatment if you suffer from any of the conditions mentioned above.Serzone is classified in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means it isn't known if Serzone can harm a newborn baby. Don't use Serzone without first speaking to your physician if you're expecting or are likely to be pregnant while taking treatment.

It isn't known if Serzone is absorbed in breast milk. Don't take Serzone without first speaking to your doctor if you are breastfeeding.If you're older than 60 You are more susceptible to experiencing adverse effects due to Serzone.

How to take Serzone?

Use Serzone exactly as prescribed by your physician. If you are unsure about these instructions, consult your pharmacist, nurse, or physician to explain the directions to you.Every dose is taken by drinking a glass of water.

Don't discontinue taking Serzone without consulting your physician. It could take a few weeks before you start to feel better. In addition, you might require continuous treatment for a long time.Keep Serzone at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You should take the missed dose as soon as you can remember. If it's close to the time of your next scheduled dose, you can skip the missed dose and take only the next dose as instructed. Don't take two doses of this medicine.

What happens if I overdose?

Get medical attention in an emergency.The signs of a Serzone overdose are drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and seizures.

  • An allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; tightening of your throat or mouth; swelling of your tongue, lips, or face; or an allergic reaction (hives, swollen lips, or tongue);
  • Fainting;
  • Long, painful, inconvenient, or unintentional improper or painful erections (this can lead to an unavoidable condition that requires surgery).

Other, less severe adverse effects are more likely to happen. Keep taking Serzone and speak to your physician whenever it's appropriate if you notice:

  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or drowsiness
  • Stomach upset;
  • Insomnia;
  • Dry mouth;
  • Constipation
  • Blurred or distorted vision

Other side effects than those described here can also occur. Consult your physician about any side effect that appears unusual or is particularly painful.

Interaction with other drugs

Do not consume Serzone if you are currently taking any of these medications:

  • An inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAOI) like isocarboxazid (Marplan) or phenelzine (Nardil), as well as an oxycypromine derivative such as tranylcypromine (Parnate);
  • Terfenadine (Seldane, Seldane-D);
  • Astemizole (Hismanal);
  • Cisapride (Propulsid);
  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR, Epitol, and Carbatrol);
  • Triazolam (Halcion);
  • Pimozide (Orap).

These drugs could cause grave interactions with Serzone, which can lead to seizures, heart problems, and even death.

A variety of other medications may interfere with Serzone. Consult your physician before taking any other medications in treatment with Serzone, particularly those listed below:

  • Haloperidol (Haldol);
  • Alprazolam (Xanax);
  • Lorazepam (Ativan);
  • Cyclosporine (Neoral and Sandimmune);
  • Tacrolimus (Prograf);
  • Digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps);
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin);
  • Warfarin (Coumadin);
  • Atorvastatin (Lipitor), lovastatin (Mevacor), or simvastatin (Zocor).

It is possible that you will require a dose adjustment or monitoring throughout treatment if you take any one of the following drugs:

Other medications than those listed may interfere with Serzone. Discuss with your doctor and pharmacist prior to taking any prescription or other over-the-counter medicine, such as herbal products.
