Axid Ar

Drug class:H2 antagonists.
Generic name: nizatidine.

What is Axid Ar?

Axid AR contains nizatidine and is available without a prescription. Nizatidine works as a histamine-2 inhibitor by reducing acid production in the stomach.Axid AR reduces the amount of stomach acid that causes acid reflux.This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Axid Ar.

Warning

Axid AR may cause adverse effects that can impair thinking and reactions. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that requires alertness.Axid AR should not be used if you have an allergy to nizatidine or other similar drugs, such as cimetidine Tagamet or ranitidine Zantac.Please read all the instructions on the label or package of your medication. Inform your doctors about your allergies and medical conditions. As part of your disclosure, share which medications you are currently taking with them.

Before you take this drug

Many people confuse heartburn with the early symptoms of an attack. If you experience chest pain, a heavy feeling or pain that spreads to your arm or shoulder, as well as nausea, sweating, and general malaise, seek emergency medical care.Axid AR should not be used if you have an allergy to nizatidine or other stomach medications such as ranitidine (Zantac), tagamet (cimetidine), or famotidine (Pepcid).

Axid AR is not recommended for people with certain medical conditions.

  • Pain when eating food
  • Bloody or tarry stool; vomiting blood or vomit that looks like coffee ground;
  • Heartburn lasting more than three months
  • Heartburn that makes you wheeze or feels like you could pass out
  • Unusual weight loss;
  • Stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting;
  • Frequent chest pain;
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease

There is no way to know if Axid will cause harm to an unborn child. If you are pregnant, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor.Nizatidine may pass through breast milk, which can harm nursing babies. This medication should not be taken while breastfeeding.This medication should not be given to children younger than 12 without consulting a physician.

How to take Axid Ar?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use AxidAR for longer than indicated on the label. Use Axid AR only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it for a longer period of time.Take 1 axid AR with water to relieve symptoms of heartburn.Take one tablet along with one full glass of filtered water before eating, or even up to an hour before you consume anything that could cause heartburn.Take no more than two tablets within a 24-hour period.If your symptoms of heartburn do not improve within 14 days or worsen over time, call your doctor.Axid may only be part of an overall treatment program that includes lifestyle or dietary changes. You should follow your doctor’s advice.Certain medical tests can produce unexpected results when Axid AR is used. Inform any physician who treats you about your use of Axid AR.Keep the bottle at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.Keep the bottle tightly shut when not being used.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as possible, take the missed dose.If your next scheduled dose is approaching quickly, skip any missed ones and wait to take your scheduled medication.You should not take more medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Avoid this

Avoid certain foods and drinks that may aggravate heartburn.

  • After eating, you should not bend over or lie down.
  • Eating late at night
  • Overeating is eating too quickly or in excess.
  • Being overweight;
  • Wearing clothing that is too tight at the waist.
  • Smoking;
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Avoid eating foods like chocolate, caffeine, or foods with acidity, as well as spicy or fried food.

Side effects of Axid AR

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an axid allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue

If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop using Axid AR immediately and contact your doctor.

  • Heartburn can worsen.
  • Chest pain;
  • Pale skin or feeling faint or lightheaded;
  • Jaundice refers to an abnormal yellowing of both skin and eyes.

Axid AR may cause side effects such as:

  • Headache, dizziness;
  • Diarrhea;
  • Runny or stuffy nasal symptoms

Interaction with other drug

It is possible that nizatidine may interfere with other drugs, such as prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, or vitamin products. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines that you are currently taking and those you plan to start using.
