What is Arixtra?

Arixtra hinders the function of certain clotting agents in the blood.Arixtra can be used to treat a blood clot, known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), that can result in blood clots within the lung (pulmonary embolism). The development of a DVT may occur following certain kinds of surgical procedures.Arixtra can also be used in conjunction with warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) to treat DVT and embolisms in the lungs.Arixtra could also be prescribed for other purposes that are not mentioned in this guideline.

Side effects of Arixtra

Contact a medical professional immediately. Get medical attention immediately if you notice symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, such as symptoms of hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your lips, face, and tongue.Seek medical attention in an emergency in the event that you exhibit signs of a spinal blood clot: back pain and numbness, or weakening in the lower limbs, or a loss of bladder or control of the bowel.Arixtra could cause bleeding to occur more frequently.
Contact your doctor immediately if you show indications of bleeding, like:

  • Bleeding or bruising (nosebleeds, bleeding gums, large menstrual blood);
  • Pain, swelling, pain, or drainage from a cut or an injection of a needle occurred in your skin.
  • Bleeding from wounds or injections, or any bleeding that won't stop;
  • Have headaches, dizziness and the feeling like you might faint;
  • Urine that appears either pink, red, or brown
  • Bloody or tarry stool that coughs up blood or vomit that appears like coffee grounds

Make sure to contact your doctor at the earliest opportunity if you are suffering from:

  • An euphoric feeling, similar to you're passing out;
  • Low potassium level: leg muscle cramps, constipation, irregular heartbeats, fluttering of your chest, a sudden increase in thirst or urine sensation of tingling or numbness, muscular weakness, or a limp sensation;
  • Low red blood cells (anemia)--pale skin sensation of fatigue, a feeling that is unusual, faint or lightheaded, cold hands and feet;
  • Constipation, leg cramps unsteady heart beats around your chest; a sudden increase in thirst or urine; numbness or sensation of tingling; muscle weakness or a limp sensation;
  • Red blood cells are low (anemia)—pale complexion, lightheaded or short of breath, fast heart rate, difficulty concentrating,

Common negative effects of arixtra include:

  • Bleeding, bruising;
  • Sleep problems (insomnia);
  • Rash, blisters;
  • Dizziness, confusion,
  • Small rash, minor bleeding, itching, or oozing in the area where the medication was

Warnings

Arixtra should not be used when you are suffering from active bleeding, a severe kidney disease, or the presence of an infection in the lining of your heart, as well as if you have a low platelet count in the blood following testing positive for a particular antibody. It is not recommended to use Arixtra following surgery if your weight is under 100 pounds (50 kilogrammes).Arixtra may cause bleeding more easily. Consult your physician immediately if you notice indications of bleeding, like bleeding gums, bleeding from the nose, heavy menstrual period or vaginal bleeding that is abnormal, bloody urine and bloody or tarry stools bleeding blood, or coughing up vomiting that resembles coffee grounds.Other medications can also increase the bleeding risk when you use them together with Arixtra. Inform your doctor about the medications you've recently taken.Arixtra can result in a grave blood clot to the spinal cord if you are treated with an MRI, a spinal tap, or any spinal anaesthesia (epidural). Tell your doctor about the use of this drug.

Before you take this drug

It is not recommended to use this medication if you've ever experienced a severe adverse reaction to Arixtra or suffer from:

  • Bleeding that is uncontrolled or active;
  • Serious kidney diseases;
  • An infection of the inner lining of your heart (also known as an infection in the lining of your heart (also known as endocarditis), also known as
  • Platelets are low in your blood following testing positive for a specific antibody taken with arixtra.

Arixtra is not recommended for use if you weigh less than 110 pounds. Arixtra to avoid blood clots following surgery when the weight of your body is less than 110 pounds (50 kg).Arixtra could cause a grave blood clot that surrounds your spinal cord when you have an examination for a spinal tap or some form of spinal anaesthesia (epidural).
This kind of blood clot can cause long-term paralysis. Problems arise more commonly if:

  • If you suffer from an abnormality in your spinal cord,
  • You've been through a spinal catheter.
  • Your medical history includes spinal surgery or multiple spinal taps.
  • You have had recent epidural or spinal tap anaesthesia.
  • You're taking an NSAID such as Advil, Aleve, Motrin, and more.
  • You're taking other medicines to treat or prevent blood clots.

Inform your doctor immediately if you have ever experienced:

  • A blood disorder that is genetic or triggered by disease
  • A stroke;
  • Eye issues due to diabetic issues;
  • Uncontrolled excessive blood pressure;
  • The stomach, intestinal or bowel bleeding, or ulcers;
  • Spinal and eye surgeries;
  • An antolatex,
  • Kidney or liver disease.

Utilising Arixtra during pregnancy could cause bleeding within the mother or still-born child. Tell your doctor whether you are expecting or if you find yourself pregnant.Breastfeeding while on this medication should not be attempted.Consult your physician regarding any risks.

How to take Arixtra?

Arixtra is typically prescribed every day until the condition improves. Follow the instructions on your prescription label, and review all medication guides and instructions. Be certain that the prescribed medicine is taken exactly as instructed.Arixtra is injected beneath the skin. The doctor may instruct you on how to use the drug on your own.Take note of and follow the instructions for use that are included in your medication. Avoid using Arixtra if there is a problem understanding all the instructions to use it correctly. Consult your physician or pharmacist for any concerns.It is recommended to lie or sit for the injection. Don't inject Arixtra into muscles or veins.You should prepare your injection only when you are able to give it. Don't use any medicine that has changed colour or contains particles. Contact your pharmacist to inquire about a new medication.Your physician will tell you where you can inject Arixtra. You should use a different spot every time you administer an injection. Don't inject the same area twice in one row.Arixtra may allow you to lose blood even if you have a minor injury. Seek medical attention in the event that you are bleeding and it isn't stopping.If you are in need of an operation, tooth work, or medical procedure, notify the dentist or doctor beforehand that you're taking this medication. If you require anaesthesia, you might have to stop taking Arixtra for a short period of time.When you are taking Arixtra Your blood as well as your stool (bowel movement) might require regular testing. Your muscle and nerve functioning may also have to be examined.Keep it at room temperature, away from heat and moisture sources.Don't freeze.Use a needle or the syringe only once and put them in the puncture-proof "sharps" container. Make sure you follow local or state laws on how to dispose of the container. Make sure that any potential hazards such as pets or children cannot access it.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Take the medication as quickly as you are able, but do not miss your missed dosage if it's close to the time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Get medical attention immediately or contact the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. The overdose could cause bleeding to become excessive.

What should be avoided?

Avoid activities that increase the chance of injury or bleeding. Make sure you take extra precautions to avoid bleeding when shaving or brushing your teeth.

 

Interaction with other drug

Discuss with your doctor all other medications, including:

  • Other medications that stop or treat blood clots
  • A blood thinner: Heparin warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven);
  • These are NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs): aspirin, ibuprofen, aspirin (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and many more.

This list isn't complete, and a variety of other medications could influence Arixtra. This includes prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. There are many possible interactions between drugs that are listed here.
