What is GaviLyte-H and Bisacodyl with Flavor Packs?
Bisacodyl is a laxative used to cleanse the bowels before a colonoscopy. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of bisacodyl or PEG-3350.
Side effects of GaviLyte-H and Bisacodyl with Flavor Packs
If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing or swelling in your lips, face, tongue or throat. Seek immediate medical assistance.
Bisacodyl, or PEG-3350, can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- No bowel movements within 6 hours of use
- Severe nausea, stomach pain, or bloating.
- Rectal bleeding
- Heartbeats irregular;
- Headache, confusion, or a seizure;
- Dehydration symptoms include feeling thirsty, hot, or unable to urinate. Heavy sweating or dry and hot skin.
- Signs of electrolyte deficiency include increased thirst or urination; constipation; muscle cramping; and weakness. Other symptoms are leg cramps, numbness, tingling or numbness, feeling jittery or jittery-like, irregular heartbeats, or a feeling like you're choking.
Notify your doctor immediately if you experience difficulty drinking clear liquid.
Some of the common side effects associated with gavilyte H and Bisacodyl Flavor Packs include:
- Feeling full or uncomfortable
- Stomach cramps;
- Nausea, vomiting;

Warnings
Do not use it other than as directed. Inform your physician of any medications you are currently taking as well as allergies or medical conditions you have, including any allergies and conditions which require special medical treatment.
Before you take this drug
GaviLyte and Bisacodyl should not be used with flavor packs when you:
- Obstruction of the bowel, or severe constipation.
- Perforation of the intestines (a hole or tear);
- The toxic colitis is also known as the toxic megacolon.
- Slow digestion or difficulty emptying your stomach.
As soon as any of the following occur:
- A stomach or intestinal disorder, such as colitis ulcerative (or gastric reflux);
- An electrolyte imbalance is a low blood potassium or sodium level.
- Kidney disease
- Heart problems
- Trouble swallowing
- A seizure;
- Withdrawal from alcohol or a benzodiazepine such as Valium or Xanax.
Notify your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or nursing. No one under 18 may use this product.
How to take GaviLyte-H and Bisacodyl with Flavor Packs?
Read all of the instructions or guides provided with your medication and follow all directions listed on its label.Water is essential before, during, and after bowel cleansing. If you are using PEG-3350 and bisacodyl, it is possible to become dehydrated. This medicine contains both a PEG-3350 powder and a solution to make bisacodyl tablets. After you start having bowel movements, you will first take the tablet and then mix it with the PEG-3350 powder to make a solution.
Solution:
- Mix powdered water treatment products with 2 liters of water for best results.
- Shake the powder well until it dissolves.
- If desired, add one of the flavor packs provided. Add no other flavors, such as honey, sugar, juice, or sweeteners.
- The solution can be kept at room temperature, or even in the refrigerator, until you're ready to drink it. Do not store the solution beyond 48 hours.
Do not chew or crush the tablet. Take it with water. You should be able to have a bowel motion within one to six hours after taking the tablet. Drink 8 ounces every 10 minutes after you have had a bowel motion. Each portion should be consumed as quickly as you can, rather than slowly. If you experience severe stomach discomfort, either stop drinking or drink the solution more slowly and at longer intervals. Within an hour of drinking the solution, you should start experiencing watery bowel movements. If you are unable to drink the entire solution prescribed by your doctor in time for your colonoscopy, call your doctor. Rearranging of tests may become necessary. Follow the instructions of your doctor to ensure that you finish the 2 liters. On the day you have your colonoscopy, do not consume solid foods or drinks other than clear fluids.
You should follow your doctor's instructions regarding the types and amounts of liquids that you can drink at least 24 to 48 hours before your colonoscopy. Store bisacodyl unopened and PEG-3350 away from moisture and heat at room temperature.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you are unable to drink the entire solution within the prescribed time, call your doctor.
What happens if I overdose?
Reach out immediately if a poison occurs; contact 1-800-222-1222.
What should be avoided?
Use only the laxatives. Take the bisacodyl tablet at least 1 hour after taking an antacid. Take no other medications or vitamin or mineral supplements for at least 1 hour prior to drinking the solution. You will not be able to absorb the medication you are taking during this period.
Interaction with other drug
Do not fail to notify your physician if you take other medications, including:
- Antidepressants are a type of medication.
- A diuretic, or "water pill."
- Heart or blood pressure medications;
- Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Diclofenac, and Indomethacin are all NSAIDs.
