What is Onfi?
Onfi is a benzodiazepine (ben-zoe-dye-AZE-eh-peen). It is believed that clobazam is able to increase the activity of neurotransmitters within the brain. Onfi is administered in conjunction with other medicines in order to manage seizures caused by Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, an extremely severe form of epilepsy that can cause difficulties with development and behavior. Onfi is intended for patients who are 2 years old or older. It isn't known whether this medication has been proven safe or effective for infants younger than 2 years of age.
Warnings
Onfi can reduce or stop breathing, especially if you have recently taken an opioid or alcohol. Make sure the medication is stored in a location where other people are unable to access it. There are people who have thoughts of suicide when taking seizure medication. Talk to your doctor right away when you notice any sudden changes in your mood and behavior or if you have thoughts about suicide.
Do not stop taking Onfi without consulting your physician. You could experience more seizures or potentially life-threatening withdrawal symptoms if you quit using the medication abruptly after long-term usage. Certain withdrawal symptoms may last for 12 months or more.
Seek medical attention immediately when you stop using Onfi and experience symptoms like abnormal muscle movements, becoming more talkative or active, or having sudden and extreme changes in your mood or behavior such as hallucinations, confusion, seizures, or even thoughts of suicide.
Before you take this drug
You shouldn't use Onfi if you have an allergy to Clobazam.
To ensure that Onfi is safe for you, inform your physician if you've previously been:
- Lung disease or breathing problems;
- Depression, mood disorders, or suicidal ideas or behaviors;
- A dependency on alcohol, drugs, or
- Kidney or liver disease.
There are people who think about suicide when they are taking seizure medications. Be aware of any changes to your attitude or signs. Your caregivers or family members are also required to be on the lookout for abrupt changes in your behavior.
If you take Onfi during pregnancy, your baby may be born with withdrawal symptoms that could be life-threatening and could require medical attention for a period of time.
Do not take or stop medication for seizures during pregnancy without a physician's guidance. Clobazam may harm the unborn baby; however, experiencing a seizure during pregnancy can be harmful to both mom and child. In the long run, preventing seizures can outweigh these dangers. Talk to your doctor as soon as you discover that you are pregnant. There could be other seizure medication options that are more secure to use during pregnancy.
Onfi can reduce hormonal birth control efficiency with methods such as birth control pills, injectables, implanted skin patches, and vaginal rings. Make sure you have a backup birth control device to stop pregnancy: a diaphragm, a condom, a cervical cap, and a contraceptive sponge. Continue using birth control for a minimum of 28 days following the previous dose of Onfi.If you're nursing, consult your doctor if there is an increase in drowsiness or problems with feeding the baby who is nursing. Onfi is not endorsed to be used by anyone less than 2 years old.
