What is Versiclear?

Sodium thiosulfate fights infections that are caused by fungus.Salicylic acid helps the skin absorb sodium thiosulfate.

The combination medicine Versiclear is used to treat tinea versicolor, which appears as white patches of skin.This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Versiclear.

Side effects of Versiclear

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, and swelling of your throat.

Warnings

Versiclear should not be used if you have an allergy to sulfa drugs.

Before you take this drug

Versiclear should not be used if you have an allergy to salicylic, sodium thiosulfate, or sulfa medications.Versiclear is not known to harm an unborn child. If you plan to get pregnant or are already pregnant, tell your doctor.

Salicylic acid topical and sodium thiosulfate are not known to pass into breast milk. It is also unknown if they could harm a baby who is nursing. You should tell your doctor if a child is breastfed.

How to take Versiclear?

Do not alter the instructions on your prescription. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it for longer.You should wash your hands both before and after using this medication, unless it is to treat an infection of the hand.Wash and dry the affected skin thoroughly before applying this medication.Before each use, shake the lotion thoroughly.

Only apply the medication to the affected area. Avoid getting any medication on healthy skin surrounding the treated area.Cover the treated area only if your doctor says so.If this medication gets into your eyes, rinse with water.Versiclear is best used regularly. Refill your prescription before you run out.Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as you remember a missed dose, take it immediately; if it's almost time for another dose, skip this one instead. Don't use extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdoses of Versiclear are not considered dangerous. If anyone accidentally swallows the medication, seek emergency medical care or call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222.

Avoid this

Avoid taking it by mouth. Versiclear should only be used on the skin. This medicine should not be used on open wounds, scraped or irritated skin, or damaged skin. Rinse with water if this medicine enters your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Do not use other medications to treat the same areas that you have treated with Versiclear unless you are told to by your doctor.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs that you may take orally or even inject are unlikely to have any effect on the salicylic acid and sodium thiosulfate applied topically. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you take, including vitamins and herbal remedies.
