What is Veltin?
Veltin gel is a combination of clindamycin and tretinoin. Clindamycin is an antibiotic. It is an antibiotic that fights bacteria.Tretinoin, a vitamin A derivative, is used to treat acne. It helps to renew your skin more quickly by reducing the amount of oil produced by your oil glands.
Veltin Gel is a prescription medicine that can be used to treat acne vulgaris in adults and children over 12 years of age.Veltin can be used in other ways than those described in this guide.
Warnings
Avoid getting Veltin on your lips, in your mouth, nose, or eyes (or the creases in your nose). If Veltin does manage to get into any of these places, rinse with water. Veltin should not be applied to sunburned or windburned skin, as well as dry, chapped, and irritated skin.
This medication should not be used if your condition is ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, or if the inflammation of your intestines, also called enteritis, has ever caused severe diarrhea.Veltin should not be used if you also take another antibiotic, erythromycin.Even though Veltin Gel is applied directly to the skin, you may absorb enough Clindamycin for serious side effects.
Avoid sunlamps and tanning beds. Veltin can increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight, resulting in sunburn. If you have to be in the sun, use sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15. Wear protective clothing and use it if necessary.You may have more sensitive skin to extreme weather conditions such as wind and cold. Use clothing to protect your skin and moisturizers or lotions as necessary.
Before you take this drug
Even though Veltin Gel is applied directly to the skin, you can absorb enough Clindamycin for it to have an effect on certain medical conditions.
This medication should not be used if:
- Enteritis is an inflammation of the intestines.
- Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis,
- If you've ever suffered from severe diarrhea due to antibiotics,
Veltin should not be used if you also take another antibiotic, erythromycin.
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Veltin will be safe for you:
- Allergies
- A history of stomach or gastrointestinal disorders.
Veltin is in FDA pregnancy category C. There is no information on whether Veltin can harm an unborn child. If you plan to get pregnant or are already pregnant, tell your doctor.
The safety of clindamycin and tretinoin is unknown. Breastfeeding women must not use this medicine.This medicine is not recommended for children younger than 12 years of age.
How to take Veltin?
Follow the directions on your prescription label. Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Use this medicine only at the recommended dose. Do not exceed it. It will not work faster if you use more medicine or apply it more frequently than recommended. You may experience other side effects.
After applying Veltin Gel, wash your hands.Use a mild cleanser or soap to wash your face. Pat the skin with a towel.Only a small amount of Veltin Gel should be used to cover your face. Apply only once a day at bedtime. The results will not be faster if you apply more frequently.While using this medication, do not wash your face any more than three times per day. Acne can be made worse by washing your face more frequently or scrubbing it when you do.
Avoid getting Veltin Gel in your mouth, nose, eyes (or the creases in your nose), or lips. If you accidentally get it in any of these places, rinse with water. This medicine should not be applied to sunburned or windburned skin, as well as dry, chapped, and irritated skin.
Even if it doesn't seem to be working, continue taking this medication until the prescribed time period. If your skin irritation is severe or your acne doesn't improve after using this medication for several weeks, call your doctor.Tell your surgeon if you plan to have surgery that you use Veltin.Store Veltin Gel at room temperature, away from moisture, light, and heat. Do not freeze.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you forget to take a dose, use the medication as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it's almost time for the next dose. You should not take extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.
Avoid this
After applying the medicine, avoid washing or using other products on your skin for at least one hour.Do not use other medications to treat the same area as Veltin gel unless you have been told by your doctor. Avoid skin products that may cause irritation. These include harsh soaps, skin cleansers or shampoos, permanent hair dyes or chemicals, hair removal or waxes, and skin products containing alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime.
Antibiotics can cause diarrhea. This could be an indication of a new illness. Stop using the medicine and contact your doctor if you experience diarrhea that is bloody or watery. You should only use anti-diarrhoea medication if your doctor has prescribed it.
Veltin makes you more susceptible to sunburn. Use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more every morning and as needed throughout the day. Avoid sun exposure or tanning bed use.You may have more sensitive skin to extreme weather conditions such as wind and cold. Use clothing to protect your skin and moisturizers or lotions as necessary.
Side effects of Veltin
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.
If you experience:
- If you experience severe skin irritation, such as stinging or burning, or severe redness or swelling, it is important to consult your doctor.
- Diarrhea that is bloody or watery
Veltin can cause a variety of side effects.
- Mild skin irritation, peeling, or dryness
- Mild skin redness;
- Itching of the treated skin

Interaction with other drug
Clindamycin or tretinoin applied topically will not be affected by other drugs taken orally or injected. Many drugs interact. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you take, including vitamins, herbal products, prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and other drugs.
