To utilize the sternal buccal system:
- Keep one buccal system in place with the flat side of your fingertip. Place the curved end on your gum at least as high as you can above your teeth on the left and right. Keep your finger on the outer edge of your lips over the device for a period of 30 seconds to ensure that the system is firmly attached to the gum. If the system adheres to the cheek but not to the gum, it is fine.
- It is recommended that the sternal buccal system be left in position for a minimum of 12 hours. To remove it, simply move it slightly towards the front or back of the mouth, then slide it back towards the teeth that are removed. Every time you use it, turn it around to alternate sides in your mouth. This helps avoid scratching the gum. Verify whether the dental system remains functioning when you eat, drink, brush your teeth, or apply mouthwash.
- The striated buccal system absorbs water in the mouth. It begins to soften and then changes shape to match its own. The system will not disintegrate completely, but it will remain in the same place. It won't move until you take it off.
- If a buccal device falls off after 8 hours of usage, remove it and replace it with a fresh system at the same location.
- Replace the buccal system and the opposite side of the mouth every 12 hours following the application of the initial system. If the buccal system is unable to be taken off after eight hours but after 12 hours of usage, take it off and replace the system with a fresh one over that incisor.
