What is Solriamfetol?

Solriamfetol can be used to treat excessive sleepiness during the day in adults who have narcolepsy. It is also effective in treating those with sleep disorders.

Solriamfetol does not cure sleep apnea. Continue to use your CPAP or any other devices prescribed by your physician. Solriamfetol can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of Solriamfetol

If you experience symptoms of allergy such as difficulty breathing, hives or swelling on your lips, face, throat or tongue then they could indicate an allergy is present.

Solriamfetol can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Feeling irritable or angry; racing thoughts;
  • Sleep problems that persist
  • Fast or pounding pulses or heartbeats
  • Severe headaches, blurred sight, or a pounding sensation in the neck and ears.

Side effects that may occur with solriamfetol include:

  • Trouble sleeping;
  • Anxiety;
  • Symptoms of nausea and loss of appetite

Warnings

Solriamfetol should not be used if an MAO inhibitor has been taken in the last 14 days. Examples include isocarboxazid (linezolid), methylene green injection (phenelzine), rasagiline, or selegiline.

Before you take this drug

Solriamfetol should only be taken if you are treated for sleep apnea. This condition must first be managed for one month.

Solriamfetol should not be used if an MAO inhibitor has been taken in the last 14 days. This could lead to a dangerous interaction. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (phenelzine injection), rasagiline (selegiline), methylene blue injection, and tranylcypromine.

If you've ever:

  • Heart problems
  • A stroke or heart attack
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes;
  • High Cholesterol
  • Kidney disease
  • Mental illness, psychosis, bipolar disorder,
  • Drug addiction, or alcoholism

You may find your name on a registry for pregnant women to monitor the effect of solriamfetol.

Inform your doctor about breastfeeding. You should tell your doctor about any changes in behaviour, such as agitation or sleep disturbances, reduced appetite, and decreased weight gain, that you observe with the baby. Solriamfetol should not be used by those under the age of 18.

How to take Solriamfetol?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed. Solriamfetol should be taken every morning when you awaken. Take solriamfetol either with food or without.

It may be necessary to spit or swallow the tablet in two. You should follow your doctor's advice. Follow your doctor's advice about how to adjust your dosage. Details on dosage

Adult dose for narcolepsy:

First dose: 75 mg taken orally, once daily upon waking.
Dosage may be increased after three days, depending on effectiveness and tolerance.
Maintenance dose: 75–150 mg once daily orally
Maximum dose: 150 mg/day
Comments:
It has not been demonstrated that doses above 150 mg/day increase effectiveness to the point where they outweigh adverse effects related to dosage.
Avoid taking it nine hours before bedtime. It can interfere with your sleep.
Improve awareness among patients who have excessive sleepiness during the day as a result of narcolepsy.

Usual Adult Dose for Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome:

Initial dose: Orally take 37.5mg once daily upon awakening.
The dose may be increased by a factor of 2 at intervals between 3 days, depending on the efficacy.
Maintenance dose: orally, 37.5–150 mg once daily.
Maximum dose: 150 mg/day
Comments:
This drug is not effective in treating the airway obstruction that causes obstructive sleeping apnea.
Prior to starting therapy, the patient should be treated for their airway obstruction (e.g., patients should be treated with continuous positive pressure for airway obstruction).
It has not been demonstrated that doses above 150 mg/day increase effectiveness to the point where they outweigh adverse effects related to dosage.
Avoid taking it nine hours before bedtime. It can interfere with your sleep.
Improves the wakefulness of patients who have excessive sleepiness during the day caused by OSA.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You should take the medication as soon as possible, but you must plan on being awake for at least 9 hours.Never take more than one dose at the same time.

What should be avoided?

If you have difficulty sleeping, avoid taking solriamfetol less than 9 hours before you go to sleep.
