What is Robitussin Nasal Relief ?

Acetaminophen can be used to relieve discomfort and lower fever. Phenylephrine works to shrink nasal blood vessel dilation; nasal congestion often stems from this.Nasal congestion can be caused by dilated blood vessels. Robitussin is a combination medication used to treat headaches and other symptoms such as body aches, sinus congestion, and a stuffy nose caused by allergies. It can also be used for colds or the flu. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Robitussin Nasal Relief.

Side effects of Robitussin Nasal Relief 

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat. Acetaminophen can cause severe skin reactions that are fatal. This may happen even if you've taken it before and never had a reaction. Call your doctor immediately if you experience skin redness, blistering, or peeling.

The medicine can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Heart rate can be fast, slow, or uneven.
  • Confusion, hallucinations;
  • Tremor, seizure (convulsions);
  • Little or no urinating is acceptable.
  • Nausea; upper stomach pain; itching; loss of appetite; and dark urine or clay-colored stools. Jaundice.
  • Symptoms of dangerously high blood pressure include a severe headache, blurred or buzzing vision, anxiety, confusion, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, and seizures.

Robitussin nasal relief may cause the following side effects:

  • Dizziness, weakness;
  • Mild headache
  • Mild nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach;
  • Runny nose
  • Feeling nervous, restless, or anxious
  • Sleep problems (insomnia).

Warnings

MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (rasagiline), selegiline (tranylcypromine), and rasagiline. Do not exceed recommended dosage; overdosage could result in liver damage or death and severe skin reactions are possible in rare instances; should such reactions arise, contact your healthcare provider immediately as this drug could aggravate them further.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to acetaminophen or phenylephrine (Tylenol), then Robitussin Nasal Relief is not for you. If you have taken a MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days, do not take this medication. It is possible that a dangerous drug interaction will occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (phenelzine), rasagiline (selegiline), and tranylcypromine.If you have other medical conditions or concerns, consult with a physician or pharmacist whether taking the medicine will be safe.

  • Liver diseases; cirrhosis; a history of alcoholism; or if you consume more than three alcoholic drinks per day.

Robitussin Nasal Relief is not known to harm an unborn child. If you are pregnant, do not take cough and cold medicines without consulting your doctor. Acetaminophen, phenylephrine, and other drugs can pass through breast milk. This may cause harm to a nursing infant. Decongestants can also reduce breast milk production. If you are pregnant, do not take cough and cold medicines without consulting your doctor. Do not give children under the age of five any cough or cold medicine.

How to take Robitussin Nasal Relief?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Use only as directed. Cold medicines are usually only taken for a few days until symptoms disappear. Don't take more than recommended. Acetaminophen overdoses can cause liver damage or death. One packet of powder should be dissolved in 4 ounces or more of water. Mix this mixture well and consume it immediately. Put an effervescent tablet in at least 4 ounces or half a cup of water in an appropriate glass, and stir gently.This mixture should be stirred and consumed immediately. If you continue to have symptoms after three days, or you experience pain for seven days (or five days if treating children), or you develop a skin rash or persistent headaches, or you notice any redness or swelling, stop taking the medication and contact your doctor. Notify your doctor or surgeon immediately if you have taken this medication within the last seven days, are scheduled for medical testing or surgery, or plan on keeping the medicine stored away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You may not have a regular dosing regimen since Robitussin Nasal Relief can be taken as needed. Take the missed dose immediately if you take the medication regularly. If your next scheduled dosage is near, skip the missed dose. You should not take more medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Acetaminophen overdoses can be deadly. Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, stomach pain, excessive sweating, and confusion or weakness are the first signs. Other symptoms include dark urine and yellowing skin or whites of the eyes.

What should be avoided?

This medication can affect your ability to think or react. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that requires you to remain alert.Before taking any new pain relief, allergy, or sleep medications, always speak to a licensed healthcare provider or pharmacist first. Many combination medications contain acetaminophen, also known as APAP. Taking some products together may cause an overdose of acetaminophen, which could be fatal. Avoid alcohol. Acetaminophen can increase the risk of liver damage.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal products, may also interact with acetaminophen or phenylephrine. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you are taking and those you plan to take.
