
What is Rifamycin?
Rifamycin can be used to treat traveler's diarrhea in adults caused by Escherichia coli.Rifamycin should not be used to treat diarrhea that has a fever, blood in the stools, or diarrhea not caused by E. Coli.Rifamycin can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Rifamycin
If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing and swelling in your face, lips or throat - seek medical advice immediately.
Rifamycin can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Severe stomach pain; or
- Diarrhoea that is bloody or watery
Rifamycin can cause a variety of side effects.
- Constipation
- Headache.

Before you take this drug
If you are allergic or have any of the following:
- A fever;
- Blood in your stool
Rifamycin should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.
Inform your physician of any of the following issues:
- An allergic reaction can occur to an anti-infective or to another medicine used to treat or prevent infections.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How to take Rifamycin?
Read and follow all instructions or guides provided with your medication, such as labels.. Follow the directions on the label. Rifamycin should be taken twice daily over a period of three consecutive days. Do not forget to follow your doctor's instructions. Take rifamycin along with a glass of full water. Take rifamycin either with or without food. Take with no alcohol. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. If your symptoms don't improve within 48 hours or your diarrhea worsens, call your doctor. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

Adult dose for traveler's diarrhea:
388 mg taken orally twice a day
Duration of treatment: 3 days
Comments:
Take the liquid with each dose in the morning and at night.
Alcohol should not be consumed concurrently.

What happens if I miss the dose?
If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What should be avoided?
Do not drink alcohol while taking Rifamycin.
Interaction with other drug
Rifamycin can be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you will begin or stop using.
