What is Phenoxybenzamine?
Phenoxybenzamine can be used to regulate blood pressure and reduce sweating for those suffering from pheochromocytoma (a tumor in the adrenal gland). Phenoxybenzamine can also be employed for other purposes that are not covered in this guideline for medication.
Side effect of Phenoxybenzamine

Stop using phenoxybenzamine immediately and consult your doctor immediately in case you experience extreme dizziness or if you think you could be able to pass out.
Common negative side effects of phenoxybenzamine can include:
- Stuffy nose;
- Slight dizziness, or dizziness;
- Blurred vision
- Difficulty having orgasms;
- Upset stomach; or
- Fatigued feeling.

It is best not to use phenoxybenzamine in case you have an allergy to it.

- Kidney disease.
Inform your doctor if you are expecting. It is not recommended to breastfeed while taking phenoxybenzamine.
How to take Phenoxybenzamine?

Consult your doctor if you are experiencing rapid heartbeats. You might require treatment with another medication. Store phenoxybenzamine at room temperature, far from heat and moisture.
Details on dosage
Usual Adult Dose for Pheochromocytoma:
Initial dosage: 10 mg orally twice a day.
Maintenance dose: 20–40 mg taken orally 2-3 times a day until a dose that is optimal (as determined by blood pressure monitoring) is reached.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Do not take the medicine for as long as you are able, but avoid any missed doses if it's close to the time of the next dose. Don't have two doses at one time.

The symptoms of an overdose can include a high heartbeat, vomiting, dizziness, nausea, or fainting.
What should be avoided?
Avoid driving or engaging in hazardous activities until you are aware of the effects of phenoxybenzamine on your body. Your reactions may be affected. Do not get up too quickly from a lying or sitting position. You could be dizzy. Consuming alcohol while taking this medication may cause unwanted side effects.
Interaction with other drugs
Inform your doctor about your other medications, including:
- Reserpine;
- Tizanidine;
- Epinephrine (epi-pen), norepinephrine, or
- Blood pressure medication.
