What is Numoisyn?

Numoisyns are synthetic versions of mucus secretions that are normally produced in the mouths of humans. The medicine helps create artificial saliva in cases where the body cannot produce enough saliva on its own.

Numoisyn is used to ease dryness and discomfort in the throat and mouth, which may be caused by certain medical conditions such as medication, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. Numoisyn can also be used for reasons not mentioned in this medication guide.

Side effects of Numoisyn

Contact a medical professional immediately. Get medical attention immediately if you notice symptoms or warning signs of an allergic response, such as difficulty breathing, hives, and swelling of your lips, face, and throat.

This isn't a complete list of possible side effects, and others could happen. Consult your physician to seek medical advice on the effects. You can report any symptoms to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Warnings

There are a variety of varieties and brands of salivary replacements available. There aren't all the brands included in this leaflet. Follow the directions on the label of your medication and on the label of your package.

Before you take this drug

Numoisyn is not recommended in the event that you are allergic to one of the components in the package. Talk to your doctor prior to taking Numoisyn when you are nursing or pregnant.

How to take Numoisyn?

The saliva replacement is intended for use only inside the mouth. Avoid getting it in your eyes. Use the product for saliva exactly as stated on the label or as directed by your physician. Numoisyn works in your mouth and is not designed to be swallowed. To use the mouth rinse or another liquid Numoisyn, just swish a small amount of it in the mouth for about 30 seconds, and then take it out and spit it out.

The powder for oral use must be mixed with around 1 ounce of water prior to taking it. Mix the ingredients and then apply it immediately, regardless of whether you have to swirl it around three or two times in order to get the complete amount. Do not store the mixture to use later on. Make sure to shake your oral spray gently prior to each use, and then spray it directly into your mouth and on your tongue.

Lozenges or tablets may be placed in your mouth for extended periods of time, sometimes even during sleep. Certain tablets are stuck to the gums or teeth to keep them in the right position. Gels, pastes, or swabs can be sprayed directly on the tongue, gums, teeth, or even the sides of the mouth. Follow the directions with care.

The frequency with which you use the saliva substitute could depend on your health condition and prescription schedule. Most often, Numoisyn is prescribed three to five times per day or anytime your mouth is uncomfortable and dry. When you use it for radiation or chemotherapy, it is possible to take this medication up to 10 times a day, beginning prior to or on the day of treatment. Follow all dosage instructions attentively.

Don't allow children to make use of Numoisyn without supervision from an adult. Numoisyn could be one component of a total treatment plan that also includes other methods for oral hygiene. Follow the instructions of your dentist carefully. Keep your saliva replacement in the manner stated on the label. Avoid heat, moisture, and light.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Since Numoisyn can be used as required, you might not be following a dosage schedule. If you're in a routine, you should take the dose you missed as soon as you can remember. Avoid any missed doses if you are nearing the time for the next dose scheduled. Don't take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

An overdose of a saliva substitute is unlikely to pose a risk. Take immediate medical attention or contact the poison help line at 1-800-222-1222 if anyone has swallowed huge amounts of this substance.

What should be avoided?

You might need to refrain from drinking or eating anything within 15 minutes of taking Numoisyn. Follow the directions in the package of the item that you are using. Rinse thoroughly with water if a saliva substitute is able to get into your eyes.

Interaction with other drugs

It's unlikely that other medications you take in the form of injections or orals can affect Numoisyn, which is used to treat mouths or swallows. However, many medications can interfere with one another. Be sure to inform your health professionals about the medicines you take, such as prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbs.
