What is Nedocromil?
Nedocromil can be described as an antiallergic drug that reduces symptoms when exposed to allergens.Nedocromil Ophthalmic (for eyes) helps treat the itching on the eyes that is caused by allergies.
Nedocromil ophthalmology can also be used to treat conditions that are not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Nedocromil is an ophthalmic

Nedocromil Ophthalmics can cause severe adverse effects. Stop taking nedocromil ophthalmic immediately and contact your doctor immediately if you suffer from:
- Intense burning, stinging, or irritation following the use of Nedocromil, an ophthalmic
Common adverse effects of nedocromil include:
- Headache;
- Nasal stuffiness or a runny nose;
- Eye redness;
- Your eyes could have a greater sensitivity to light.
- Minor irritation to the eyes after using the drops for the eyes.

Before you take this drug
Nedocromil should not be used as an ophthalmic if you have an allergy to it.The medicine is not intended to harm a baby who is not yet born. Consult your physician if you are expecting or planning to become pregnant.
It isn't known if the ophthalmic nedocromil is passed into breast milk or if it is harmful to breastfeeding babies. Consult your physician if you are breastfeeding a baby.Nedocromil is not a prescription drug to be used by children less than three years old.
How to take Ophthalmic nedocromil?
Follow the directions on the label of your prescription. Do not take this medication in greater or lesser quantities or for longer periods than prescribed.Use this medication only when using contact lenses. Nedocromil ophthalmic can contain a preservative that could alter the color of contact lenses. You should wait at least 15 minutes after taking the medication before putting on contacts.
Check all information about your patient, such as medication guides and instruction sheets, that you receive. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about any additional concerns.
Cleanse your hands prior to using these eye drops.
To apply eye drops:
- Adjust your head and then pull your lower eyelids to create an eyelid pocket. Keep the dropper in front of your eye, keeping the tip downward. Keep your eyes upwards at the sky and then away from your dropper, and squeeze out the drop.
- Repeat blinking several times to make sure that the solution is spread over your eyes. Then, close your eyes and remove any excess solution using a clean, dry tissue.
- Make sure you only use the number of drops your doctor advised. If you are using several drops at once, you should wait at least 5 minutes between the drops.
- Take at least 10 minutes prior to using the other drops for your eyes or any other that your medical professional has advised you to use.
Don't touch the tip on the dropper for your eyes or put it directly in your eyes. Drops that have been contaminated could affect your eyes and cause serious vision problems.
Don't use eye drops if the solution is changing color or has particles present. Consult your pharmacist about new medications.Take this medicine the whole time you're exposed to allergens, even if you don't have symptoms.
Keep at room temperature, free of heat and moisture. Avoid freezing. Close the bottle when not being used.
Details on dosage
Usual Adult Dose for Allergic Conjunctivitis:
Take the equivalent of 1 to 2 drops into each eye twice per day.
Comments:
The drug should be administered regularly.
The treatment should continue throughout the duration that you are exposed (i.e., until the pollen season has ended or the exposure of an offending allergen ceases), even if symptoms do not appear.
Use: To treat itching caused by allergy conjunctivitis
Usual Pediatric Dose for Allergic Conjunctivitis:
Drops into each eye twice a day for children aged 3 and up.
Comments:
This drug should be taken regularly.
The treatment should continue during the duration that you are exposed (i.e., until the pollen season ends and exposure to the offending allergen has been stopped), even if symptoms do not appear.
Use: To treat itching that is caused by allergies or conjunctivitis.
What happens If I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose when you remember. Do not take your missed dose if you are nearing the time for the next dose. Don't use any extra medication to make up for the missed dose.
What happens If I overdose?
An overdose of nedocromil ophthalmic is not likely to pose a risk. Get medical attention immediately or contact the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if you have accidentally swallowed the medicine.
What should be avoided?
Do not take other eye medications unless your eye doctor has told you to.
Interaction with other drugs
It's unlikely that other medications you consume in the form of injections or orally can have an impact on the eye medication nedocromil. However, many medications can interact with each other. Be sure to inform your healthcare professionals about all medications you take, including those that are prescribed and available over the counter, vitamins, and herbs.
