What is Miconazole and zinc oxide topical?

Miconazole, or zinc dioxide (for skin), is an antifungal combination medicine. It fights infections that are caused by fungus. This ointment is for treating diaper rash caused by a yeast infection. (Candidasis). The topical zinc oxide and miconazole ointment should only be used for diaper rash diagnosed by your doctor. Sprays are used for treating fungal skin infections such as jock itch, ringworm, and athlete's feet (tinea pedis). The topical zinc oxide and miconazole spray can be used by both adults and children over the age of 2 years. Topical zinc oxide and miconazole should not be used for diaper rash prevention in children or adults who are incontinent. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for topical miconazole or zinc oxide.

Side effects of Miconazole and zinc oxide topical

If you experience any of the following symptoms of allergies: difficulty breathing, hives, lip, face, throat or tongue swelling and/or difficulty swallowing - then an allergy might be present.

Miconazole topical and zinc oxide may have serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Symptoms of irritation include redness or severe pain.

Do not use this medicine to treat diaper rash.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to miconazole or zinc, dimethicone mineral oil, petroleum, or lanolin, then this topical product is not for you. Use the cream form of this medication on children younger than four weeks. Before using topical sprays on children younger than two years, consult a physician.

If you've ever:

  • A weak immune system can be caused by a disease or certain medications.

Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

How to take Miconazole and zinc oxide topical?

Follow the instructions on the packaging or those prescribed by your physician. You may be tested by your doctor to determine if you are suffering from an infection that this medication can effectively treat. Please read and adhere to all instructions that accompany your medication, if you don't understand them please consult your pharmacist or doctor for clarification. Before applying the medicine, clean and dry any affected areas. Use a mild detergent. Each time you change your diaper, apply the ointment. The medicine is not effective if you don't change diapers frequently. As soon as your baby's diapers become soiled or wet, change them immediately. The diaper area should be kept clean and dry. Avoid using miconazole topical and zinc oxide to treat diaper rash. You may risk increasing your child's chances of developing an infection resistant to treatment. The topical miconazole-zinc oxide ointment should not be used on a general diaper rash that is unrelated to a yeast infection.

Let the spray dry before dressing. There is no need to rub the medication in. Even if you feel better quickly, continue to take this medication for the entire prescribed time. You can get resistant to infections if you skip doses. This medicine should not be shared with anyone else, even if the other person has similar symptoms. If symptoms don't improve or worsen, stop using the medication and contact your doctor. The diaper rash will start to fade within a week. The athlete's feet should improve within four weeks, and the jock itch should improve within two weeks. To get the best results from this medication, follow the instructions to keep treatment areas clean and dry. Keep away from heat and moisture. When not in use, keep the bottle or tube tightly closed.

If you are 4 years old or older, apply it to the affected area every time you change your diaper for seven days.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You are unlikely to miss any doses since the topical miconazole-zinc oxide ointment will be applied with every diaper change. Use the spray as quickly as possible if you have a regular schedule. If it's almost time to take your next dose, skip the missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

A miconazole topical and zinc oxide overdose is unlikely to cause harm. If anyone accidentally swallows the medicine, seek emergency medical care or contact the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Wear loose-fitting cotton clothing to cover treated areas of skin. Avoid wearing synthetic clothes (such as polyester or nylon clothing) or plastic pants that prevent air from reaching your skin. When treating the feet, you should wear sandals and clean cotton socks that are breathable. Your feet should be as dry as you can. If miconazole or zinc oxide topical accidentally gets into your eyes, rinse with water. Do not use perfumed or scented soaps or lotions on the diaper area. Do not get this medicine in your mouth or vagina.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs that you take are unlikely to affect the medicine applied to your skin. Many drugs interact. Inform your health care providers of all the medicines that you take, including over-the-counter and prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbs.
