What is Mexar?

The skin medication Mexar is prescribed to treat certain skin conditions in children and adults over 12 years of age, including acne, seborrheic skin dermatitis and dandruff .This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Mexar.

Side effects of Mexar

If you experience symptoms of an allergy such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling on your face and throat , or severe skin reactions like a fever, sore neck, or burning eyes or skin pain with blistering or peeling, seek emergency medical attention.

Mexar can cause severe side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:

  • Joint Pain swelling or stiffness
  • Low blood counts: fever, chills and tiredness; mouth sores or skin sores. Easy bruising. Unusual bleeding. Pale skin. Cold hands and feet. Feeling lightheaded.
  • Liver problems: loss of appetite, nausea; vomiting; stomach pain on the upper right-hand side, fatigue, itch. Dark urine and clay colored stools. Jaundice.
  • Lupus symptoms can worsen or develop. These include joint pain and an inflammatory rash that gets worse in the sun.

Mexar can cause the following side effects:

  • Dry skin

Warnings

Do not use other than as prescribed. Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking, or if there is a medical condition or allergy.

Before you take this drug

Mexar may not work for you if your kidneys are damaged or you're allergic to Mexar.

If you or a family member has:

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus;
  • Low blood cells counts
  • Asthma;
  • A sulfite allergy;
  • Liver disease.

Mexar is unknown to cause harm to an unborn child. Inform your doctor of any pregnancy or plans to become pregnant, as they can advise if breastfeeding is possible while taking this medication. Furthermore, children should never take this medicine without first consulting with a healthcare provider first.

How to take Mexar?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all the directions. Respect the instructions on your prescription label. If you change the brand, strength or form of a medicine, your dose requirements may be different. Use the medication exactly as instructed on the package or prescribed by your physician to avoid any mistakes. Before using, shake the Mexar cream, lotion, foam, liquid or shampoo. Avoid applying Mexar to large areas of skin. After using this medication, wash your hands. If your symptoms return after stopping Mexar, or you have skin irritations or sensitivities while taking this medication long term, call your doctor. Keep tightly sealed at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Keep away from moisture and heat. Keep the canisters upright, away from heat or open flames. Empty canisters should not be punctured or burned.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are close to your next dose, skip the missed one. Never apply two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

If anyone accidentally swallows the medication, seek emergency medical care or contact the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. Vomiting, nausea and blood in the urine are all symptoms of an overdose.

What should be avoided?

Mexar should not be placed in the nose or mouth. If this medication gets into your nose or mouth, rinse with water. This medicine should not be applied to skin that is broken, burned, or peeling, nor to skin infected with , unless you have been told to by your doctor. Do not get this medication on your clothes. Mexar can discolor light fabric.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your doctor of all other medications you are taking, including:

  • If you are using a medicine that contains Silver, such as Silver sulfadiazine.
