What is Metaproterenol?

Metaproterenol acts as a bronchodilator. The bronchodilator works by relaxing the muscles of the airways.Metaproterenol can be used for conditions like asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.Metaproterenol can be used in other ways than those listed here.

Side effects of Metaproterenol

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

Metaproterenol may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Chest pain, rapid heart rate
  • If you feel your heart pounding or fluttering, then this is what it means.
  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.
  • Tremors;
  • Symptoms that worsen or do not improve

Metaproterenol can cause a number of side effects.

  • Nervousness;
  • Headache;
  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, dry mouth
  • Tired feeling
  • Sleep problem (insomnia).

Warnings

Metaproterenol should be avoided if your heart rhythm is abnormal and you experience fast heartbeats.

Before you take this drug

Metaproterenol should be avoided if you are allergic or suffer from a fast-paced heart rhythm.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that metaproterenol will be safe for you:

  • Heart disorder, hypertension; heart rhythm disorders
  • Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
  • Diabetes;
  • Overactive thyroid gland

Metaproterenol is known to cause harm to an unborn child. If you plan to get pregnant or are currently pregnant, tell your doctor. Metaproterenol is unknown to pass into breast milk or harm nursing babies. You should tell your doctor that you're breastfeeding a child. Metaproterenol shouldn't be administered to children younger than six years of age.

How to take Metaproterenol?

Do not exceed the dosage or duration recommended on your prescription. Metaproterenol should not be taken in higher or lower doses or for longer periods than prescribed. Measure liquid medications using a medicine cup or spoon; consult your pharmacist if you don't already own one.Metaproterenol is most effective when taken regularly. Refill your prescription before it runs out.If you feel that your asthma medication is not working well, seek medical help. A sudden increase in the need to take medications could indicate a severe asthma attack.You may be required to undergo frequent lung function testing or chest X-rays in order to ensure that this drug is not having harmful effects on the lungs.Keep away from heat, moisture, and light.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as possible, take the missed dose. If the next dose is approaching quickly, don't take an extra one. Instead, skip it.. You should not take more medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What should be avoided?

Smoking, breathing dust, and exercising in dry, cold air can trigger asthma attacks.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your doctor of all medications you take, including those that you stop taking or start using while you are being treated with metaproterenol.

  • An MAO inhibitor: isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine;
