What is Meprobamate?

Short-term use of meprobamate can be used to treat anxiety. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of meprobamate.

Side effects of Meprobamate

If you experience symptoms of an allergy, such as hives, fever, or chills; difficulty breathing; or swelling around your mouth or face, seek emergency medical attention.

Meprobamate may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Feelings of excitement or extreme joy;
  • Thoughts of suicide or harming yourself
  • Fast or pounding pulses.
  • Feeling faint? A common side-effect of medication, dizziness can leave one dizzy and feeling as if they could pass out at any moment.
  • You may experience swelling of your ankles or feet, hands, or even both.
  • A red, itchy rash that may only be in the groin region;
  • Unusual bruising
  • Sudden fever, chills, and weakness

Meprobamate can cause a number of side effects.

  • Drowsiness, weakness;
  • Problems with muscle or balance movement
  • Headache, dizziness;
  • Bruising;
  • Numbness and tingling are both examples of numbness.
  • Blurred vision
  • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Do not use it other than as prescribed. Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking or if there is a medical condition or allergy.

Before you take this drug

Meprobamate should be avoided if:

  • Porphyria
  • A reaction is a hypersensitivity to carisoprodol.

If you've ever:

  • Epilepsy
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver Disease
  • Alcoholism, or drug addiction

can harm an unborn child.Notify your physician as soon as you suspect being pregnant. A doctor can tell you if breastfeeding is possible while taking meprobamate. No one under the age of 6 is allowed to use this product.

How to take Meprobamate?

Read and follow all instructions or guides included with your medication. Follow the directions on your prescription label. It is possible that meprobamate can become habit-forming. Abuse of this medication can lead to addiction, death, or overdose. Do not share it with anyone else. Store the medication in a place where other people cannot access it. This medicine cannot be sold or given away. Your physician must regularly assess you. If you suddenly stop taking meprobamate after using high or long-term doses, withdrawal symptoms may occur. Before stopping your medicine, consult with your doctor. Keep tightly sealed at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Store your medication in an area where it cannot be misused.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for anxiety:
Divided into 3 or 4, doses of 1200 mg to 1600mg orally
Maximum dose: 2400 mg per day.
Comments:
To limit the risk of oversedation, use only the dose that is most effective.
The effectiveness of the program beyond four months was not assessed.
Usage: For the treatment of anxiety disorders and for short-term relief from anxiety symptoms.

The usual pediatric dose for anxiety is:
Age 6–12 years
Divide 200–600 mg into 2 or 3 doses.
Age 13 or older
Divided into 3 or 4, doses of 1200 mg to 1600mg orally
Maximum dose: 2400 mg per day.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for the next dose, skip the missed one. Never take more than one dose at a time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Overdoses can lead to death. The symptoms of an overdose may include extreme dizziness or sleepiness, loss of coordination, slow or shallow breathing, or fainting.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol consumption with meprobamate may cause adverse effects. Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine affects you. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

Meprobamate can make this worse if you take it with drugs that cause drowsiness. Before taking an opioid, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, medicine to treat anxiety, or a seizure, consult your doctor. Meprobamate can be affected by other drugs, such as prescription medicines, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the other medications you take.
