What is Milk of Magnesia?

Natural magnesium is found in the body. The Milk of Magnesia can reduce stomach acid and increase water in the intestines, which could lead to bowel movement. The milk of Magnesia can be used to treat constipation. The milk of magnesia can also be used to treat indigestion and acid reflux. Side effects of Milk of Magnesia

If you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives, lips, face, throat or tongue swelling and difficulty swallowing; seek medical advice immediately.

If:

  • You have kidney disease.
  • You are following a diet low in magnesium.
  • You have experienced a change in your bowel habit that is more than two weeks old.

Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or nursing.

How to take Milk of  Magnesia?

Follow the instructions on the packaging or those prescribed by your physician. Measuring liquid medication is important. Dosing devices are available, but not spoons. Before each use, you may have to shake or agitate the oral suspension. The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed. This medicine should be taken with 8 ounces of water. If taken as laxative Milk of Magnesia, it should cause a bowel motion within 30 minutes up to six hours. If the condition that you're treating with milk magnesium doesn't improve or worsens, call your doctor. Use Milk of Magnesia no longer than seven days, unless you have received medical advice. Keep away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You may not have a schedule for Milk of Magnesia, as it is only used when necessary. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip any missed doses. Never take two doses in one go.
