What is Lumizyme?

Lumizyme is an enzyme found in the healthy body. Gene mutation can result in some individuals lacking this enzyme. Alglucosidase alfa is used to replace the enzyme that's missing in these people.The treatment of a glycogen storage disorder, also known as GAA deficiency in children and adults, with LumizymeLumizyme can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Warnings

Lumizyme can cause serious allergic reactions.Tell your doctor before receiving Lumizyme if you suffer from heart disease, lung disease, breathing disorders, or are allergic to mice, hamsters, or drugs containing "murine" protein.Tell your doctor before each injection if you've recently been sick. This includes a recent cold, flu, or any other illness. Lumizyme injections have caused reactions in some people. This reaction can happen when the medicine has been injected directly into the vein or up to 3 hours later.

Before you take this drug

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Lumizyme will be safe for you:

  • Heart disease

  • Lung disease or breathing disorder.

Babies with Pompe disease who are diagnosed in their first year of existence may requirespecialised medical testing to enhance treatment using Lumizyme.This medicine is not known to harm an unborn child.Tell your doctor immediately if you are expecting, planning on becoming pregnant, or planning to become pregnant.Do not breastfeed for 24 hours following the receipt of Lumizyme. Throw away any milk collected if you are using a breast pump. Do not give it to your child.You may find your name on the Pompe Registry. This will allow you to monitor the progression of your disease as well as the results of your Lumizyme treatment.

How to take Lumizyme

Lumizyme can be infused into a vein. This injection will be given by a healthcare provider.The IV infusion of Lumizyme can take as long as 4 hours.The usual dosage is once every two weeks.Tell your doctor before each injection if you've recently been ill with a cold or flu.Tell your surgeon that you use Lumizyme before you have surgery.The effects of Lumizyme on the body can be long-lasting. You will be required to test your blood every three months for two years, and then every year thereafter.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for Pompe disease:

20 mg/kg will be administered intravenously every two weeks via IV infusion.

Comments:

The total volume of infusion should be administered over a period of approximately 4 hours.

The usual paediatric dose for Pompe disease is:

20 mg/kg administered via IV infusion every 2 weeks.Comments:

The total volume of the infusion should be determined by the body weight and infused for approximately 4 hours.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are unable to attend your Lumizyme appointment, call your doctor.

What happens if I overdose?

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage, or activity, follow their instructions.

Side effects of Lumizyme

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat, contact emergency medical assistance.Some reactions can occur immediately after the injection or up to 3 hours later. You should immediately tell your carers about any of the following symptoms or seek emergency medical attention

  • Feeling as if you could pass out even while lying down can be very unnerving, yet can lead to dangerously close calls with collapse and faintness.

  • Slow heart rate, weak pulse, and fainting (breathing can stop);

  • Bronchospasm is a tightening of the chest or throat that causes difficulty breathing.

  • Blue lips, fingernails, or skin; pale skin or cold skin;

  • Warmth, redness, or tingling under the skin;

  • Rash, itching, sweating, and fever;

  • Feeling restless, anxious, or nauseated is a common symptom of a severe headache.

  • Seizure (convulsions)

  • Rapid heart rate, pounding in the neck or ears, anxiety, and confusion

Call your doctor immediately if you

  • Skin changes (sores, lesions, ulcers, discoloration);

  • Weight gain, puffy eyes, swelling of the ankles and feet, and foamy urine are all signs.

Lumizyme may cause side effects such as:

  • Hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue;

  • Feeling hot, having blue lips, or having pale ski

  • Skin rash, itching, flushing, warmth or redness; warmth (or tingly feeling); redness;

  • Headache, agitation, and muscle twitching.

  • Fast heart rate, rapid respiration, chest discomfort, and cough

  • Increased blood pressure

  • Nausea, vomiting;

  • Tremors, shaking, and increased sweating are all possible.

  • Muscle pain and tiredness.

Interaction with other drug

Alglucosidase alfa may interact with other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
