What is Lumigan?

Lumigan reduces eye pressure by increasing the amount of fluid draining from the eye.Lumigan eyedrops are used for treating certain types of glaucoma as well as other causes of high eye pressure.Lumigan can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Warnings

Lumigan eye drops should not be used while wearing contact lenses. The eye drops could contain a preservative that can discolour soft lenses. Wait 15 minutes after Lumigan use before inserting your contact lenses.Lumigan can cause gradual changes in your eyelids, eyelashes, and eye color. It may also increase the growth of eyelashes. The colour changes are gradual and may not be noticed for several months or even years. The colour changes can be permanent, even after the treatment is over. They may only affect the eye that was treated. It could cause a cosmetic change in the eyelash or eye colour of one eye compared to another.The tip of the Lumigan dropper should not touch your hands or eyes. The dropper could become contaminated and cause an infection, which may lead to serious eye damage or vision loss.Wait at least five minutes after using Lumigan before using other eye drops prescribed by your doctor.Please read all instructions contained on your medication package or label before beginning to take it.. Inform your healthcare provider about your medical conditions, your allergies, and the medicines you are using.

Before you take this drug

Lumigan should not be used if you have an allergy to bimatoprost.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Lumigan will be safe for you:

  • Infection or swelling of the eye
  • Retinal detachment;
  • Eye surgery or injury to the lens of your eyes

Lumigan can cause gradual changes in your eye color. You may notice an increase in the length or thickness of your eyelashes. You may not notice these changes for several months or even years. Even after treatment, colour changes can be permanent. They may only affect the eye that was treated. It could cause a cosmetic change in the eye or eyelash colours from one eye to the next.Lumigan is not known to harm unborn babies. Inform your physician immediately if you're pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, or considering becoming pregnant.Lumigan is not known to pass into breast milk or whether it can affect the nursing infant. Inform your doctor if breastfeeding is a possibility.Lumigan should not be used by anyone under the age of 16.

How to take lumigan?

Lumigan eyedrops should be used exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it for longer.Lumigan eye drops are usually administered as 1 drop per affected eye every evening. Do not ignore your doctor's directions!Use this medication only if you are not wearing soft contact lenses. Lumigan eye drops contain a preservative that could permanently stain lenses. Use the medication at least 15 minutes prior to inserting your contacts.Before using eye drops, wash your hands.

How to apply lumigan eyedrops:

  • Create a pocket by tilting your head slightly back and pulling down your lower eyelid. Squeeze a few drops into the pocket by holding the dropper with the tip down above your eye.
  • Close your eyes without blinking, squinting, or moving your head. Press your finger gently on the inside corner for 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining down into your tear duct.
  • Wait at least five minutes before applying any other eye drops prescribed by your doctor.

Avoid touching or placing directly onto the tip.if the dropper is contaminated, it can cause serious vision problems.Lumigan eye drop liquids that have changed colour or contain particles should not be used. For new medication, call your pharmacist.If you are planning to have surgery on your eyes or have an eye infection or injury, you should tell your doctor immediately.Store the medicine away from heat and moisture at a cool temperature. When not in use, keep the bottle tightly shut.

What happens if i miss the dose?

Make no attempt to take an additional dose in order to catch up for one that was missed, nor double up on an already taken medicine in an effort to catch up. You should not take extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if i overdose?

Overdoses of lumigan are not dangerous. Should someone accidentally consume medication, seek emergency medical help right away or call poison help immediately at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Do not use too much medicine. This can make the medication less effective at lowering pressure in the eye.

Side effects of lumigan

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction to lumigan, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

If you experience:

  • Eye swelling, redness, and discomfort (which may be signs of infection)
  • Vision changes
  • Red, swollen, or itchy eyelids

Lumigan may cause side effects such as:

  • Eye redness or itching

Lumigan can cause gradual changes in your eye color. You may notice an increase in the length or thickness of your eyelashes. You may not notice these changes for several months or even years. Interaction with other drug

Lumigan is unlikely to interact with other drugs taken orally or injected. Many drugs can interact. Inform your doctors about all medications you take, including vitamins, herbal products, prescriptions, and over-the-counter medicines.
