What is Levsin?

Levsin has many beneficial effects on the body. It can relieve muscle spasms.Levsin reduces fluid secretions from many organs and glands of the body. These include the stomach, the pancreas or lungs, the salivary glands, the sweat glands, and the nasal passages.Levsin can be used to treat a variety of stomach and intestinal conditions, such as peptic ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome. This medicine is used to control muscle cramps in the digestive tract or bladder and reduce stomach acid. It is used to treat Parkinson’s disease symptoms such as tremors or rigid muscles.Levsin can also be used to dry out excessive sweating, runny eyes, or excessive salivation.

Warnings

Levsin should not be taken if you suffer from an allergy to hyoscyamine or have kidney or bladder disease.Tell your doctor before taking Levsin if you suffer from heart disease or congestive heart failure. Also, let them know if you suffer from high blood pressure and/or an overactive thyroid. Hiatal hernia combined with gastroesophageal reflux diseaseAvoid taking antacids when you are taking Levsin. Before you take this drug

Levsin should not be taken if:

  • Kidney disease
  • An enlarged prostrate or problems urinating
  • Intestinal blockage;
  • The toxic megacolon, or severe ulcerative colitis;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Myasthenia gravis.

Tell your doctor about any other medical conditions you may have to ensure that you can take Levsin safely.

Side effects of Levsin

  • Diarrhoea;
  • Confusion, hallucinations;
  • Unusual thoughts or behaviours
  • Fast, pounding, or uneven heart rate;
  • The feeling of warmth, flushing, or warmth (redness, warmth, or tingling) may be experienced by a person.
  • Eye pain is a common complaint.

Levsin may cause less serious side effects, sch as:

Interaction with other drug

Tell your doctor if you take any other medications, including:

  • Amantadine (symmetrel);
  • Haloperidol

  • Antidepressants such as amitriptyline, doxepin, desipramine, imipramine, janimine, tofranil, nortriptyline, and others

Other drugs can interact with hyoscyamine. Inform your doctor of all the medications you take. You should tell your doctor about all medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter, herbal, and vitamin products. You should not begin a new medication before consulting your doctor.
