What is Latanoprost ophthalmic and netarsudil?

Latanoprost and Netarsudil Ophthalmic (for eyes) are a combination of medicines used to treat open-angle glaucoma as well as other causes of high eye pressure.This medication guide does not list all possible uses for latanoprost or netarsudil.

Side effects of Latanoprost ophthalmic and netarsudil

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Latanoprost can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Eye swelling, redness, and discomfort (which could be signs of infection)
  • Itchy, red, or swollen eyelids are a common symptom.
  • Vision changes
  • After using latanoprost or netarsudil, you may experience severe burning, stinging, or irritation.

Latanoprost ophthalmic and netarsudil eye drops may cause the following side effects:

  • Eye pain after using eye drops
  • Eye redness;
  • Changes to the surface of your eye can be observed on an eye examination but will not affect your vision.

Warnings

Please read all the instructions on the label or package of your medication. Informing your healthcare provider of any health conditions, allergies or medicines you are taking will allow for proper diagnosis and care.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to netarsudil or latanoprost, then do not use the ophthalmic latanoprost.

Inform your doctor immediately of any of the following issues:

  • You may experience swelling or infection of your eye.
  • Damage to the surface (also known as the cornea) of your eye
  • Herpes infection in the eyes
  • Eye surgery or an injury to the lens of your eyes

Latanoprost may cause gradual changes in your eye colour or the colour of your eyelids or lashes. This is usually a brown pigmentation increase. You may notice an increase in the length or thickness of your eyelashes. You may not notice these changes for several months or even years. Even after treatment, colour changes can be permanent. They may only affect the eye that was treated. It could cause a cosmetic change in the eye or eyelash colours from one eye to another.Anyone younger than 18 is not allowed to use Latanoprost or Netarsudil Ophthalmic.As soon as you become pregnant or breastfeeding, inform your healthcare provider.

How to take Latanoprost ophthalmic and netarsudil?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all directions. Follow the directions on the label.This medicine should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. You can usually use 1 drop in the affected eye each evening. Do not forget to follow your doctor's instructions.If you are planning to have surgery on your eyes or have a serious eye infection or injury, you should tell your doctor immediately.Use only when wearing soft lenses. This medicine contains a preservative that could permanently stain lenses. Use the medication at least 15 minutes prior to inserting your contacts.Before using eye medications, wash your hands.Applying eye drops is as simple as tilting your head back and pulling down your lower lid to create a pocket. Squeeze a few drops into the pocket created by holding the dropper over the eye. Close your eyes for a minute or two.Only use the prescribed number of drops.Wait at least five minutes before applying any other eye drops prescribed by your doctor.Avoid touching the tip or placing it directly on your eye. If the dropper is contaminated, it can cause serious vision problems.Store it in the fridge. Store it in the refrigerator. When not in use, keep the bottle tightly shut.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Intraocular Hypertension:

Latanoprost-netarsudil 0.02% ophthalmic solutions: 1 drop in the eye(s) affected once per day, evening.
Maximum daily dosage: One drop for both eyes.Comment: The administration of topical ophthalmic medications to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) should be separated by at least 5 minutes.
Use: Reduce elevated IOP in open-angle glaucoma patients or those with ocular hypertension.

Adult dose for glaucoma:

Latanoprost-netarsudil 0.02% ophthalmic solutions: 1 drop in the eye(s) affected once per day, evening.
Maximum daily dose for each eye: one dropperful dailyComment: The administration of topical ophthalmic medications to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) should be separated by at least 5 minutes.
Use: Reduce elevated IOP in open-angle glaucoma patients or those with ocular hypertension.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose. You should not take extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdoses of latanoprost or netarsudil are not dangerous. If anyone accidentally swallows the medication, seek emergency medical care or call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Use latanoprost or netarsudil in moderation. Too much can make the medication less effective at lowering pressure within the eye.You should only use eye drops prescribed by your doctor.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs that you take are unlikely to affect the medicine used on your eyes. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare provider about the medicines you take, including vitamins and herbal remedies.
