What is Lastacaft?

Lastacaft reduces histamine's effects in the body. Histamine may cause symptoms like itchy eyes or watery ones.The Lastacaft Ophthalmic Solution is prescribed to relieve itching caused by pollen allergies, ragweed, and grass allergies, as well as animal hair, dander, or other allergens.It is not recommended to use Lastacaft for treating eye irritation due to contact lenses.Lastacaft can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Warnings

Tell your physician immediately if any eye conditions arise, such as blindness.

It is not recommended to use Lastacaft for treating eye irritation due to contact lenses.

  • Lastacaft should not be used while wearing contacts. The ophthalmic version of Lastacaft may contain a chemical preservative that can cause soft contact lenses to discolor. After using Lastacaft, wait at least 10 minutes before inserting your lenses.
  • It is not recommended to use Lastacaft with children younger than two years of age.
  • The tip of the dropper should not touch anything, not even your hands or eyes. The dropper could become contaminated and cause infection, which may lead to serious eye damage or vision loss.
  • If you experience severe burning or stinging after using Lastacaft, stop using it and contact your doctor immediately.

Before you take this drug

Lastacaft should be avoided if the user is allergic to alcaftadine.Inform your physician immediately of any eye problems.Lastacaft should not harm an unborn child. Inform your doctor immediately if you plan to get pregnant while receiving treatment or if you are pregnant. Alcaftadine does not pass into breastmilk or harm nursing babies. You should not take this medicine without first telling your doctor that you are breastfeeding a child. The use of Lastacaft in children younger than two years is not recommended.

How to take Lastacaft?

Use only as directed on the package. Use the recommended dose and do not exceed it. Please follow the directions listed on your prescription label.Use this medicine only if you are not wearing contact lenses. Lastacaft contains a preservative, which can cause soft contact lenses to discolor. After using Lastacaft, wait at least 10 minutes before inserting your lenses. Before using any eye medications, wash your hands.

How to apply eye drops

  • To create a pocket, tilt your head slightly back and gently pull your lower eyelid down. The tip of the dropper should be pointing down. As you squeeze out the dropper, look up and away. Then close your eyes.
  • Only use the prescribed number of drops.
  • For about 1 minute, gently press your finger on the inner corner of your eye (near the nose) to prevent the liquid from draining to your tear duct.
  • You should wait at least 10 minutes before you use any eye drops prescribed by your doctor.

Information on dosage

Adult and paediatric doses for allergic conjunctivitis
One drop per eye, once daily.

Use: Provides temporary relief from itching eyes caused by pollen, ragweed grass, animal hair, and dander.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as possible, take the dose you missed.If your next dose is imminent, do not take the missed one. You should not take extra medication to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect poisoning. Seek medical assistance immediately as well.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor has not instructed you otherwise, do not take any other eye medication during the treatment of Lastacaft.

Side effects of Lastacaft

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue, or hives, call 911 immediately.If you experience severe burning or stinging after using Lastacaft, stop using it and contact your doctor immediately.

Lastacaft may cause less serious side effects, such as:

  • Mild burning, irritation, or stinging
  • Eye redness and itching
  • Flu symptoms include a runny nose or swollen or stuffy nasal passage, a sore throat, or a sore or stuffy palate.

Interaction with other drug

Lastacaft is unlikely to have any effect on other drugs that you may take orally or by injection. Many drugs interact, however.Inform your doctor of any medicines you take.. Included are prescriptions, vitamins, herbal, and over-the-counter products. Never start taking a new medicine without consulting your doctor.
