What is the Isovue 370?

Isovue is a radiopaque contrast agent (RAY DEE OOH PAK). This medicine contains iodine, which is a substance capable of absorbing x-rays. The radiopaque contrast agent is used to make it easier to see blood vessels, organs, and non-bony tissue on a CT scan.

Isovue 370 can be used to diagnose certain disorders of the heart, brain, and blood vessels, as well as the nervous system. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Isovue 370.

Side effects of Isovue-370

If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling on your face or in your throat, or a severe reaction to your skin (fever or sore throat with burning, pain in the eyes, or skin rash, which is red or purple and blisters or peels), seek emergency medical attention.

If you experience a severe drug reaction, seek medical attention. This can include a skin rash, fever, or flu-like symptoms. Other symptoms may include muscle aches or weakness, unusual bruises, or yellowing.

Isovue 370 can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Your feeling is faintness or lightheadedness; like you could collapse.
  • Weight and fluid gain is rapid, yet there is minimal or no urinating.
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Seizure (convulsions);
  • You may experience swelling of the neck or throat.
  • Symptoms of thyroid disease include extreme tiredness, dry skin, stiffness or joint pain, muscle weakness or pain, hoarseness in voice, sensitivity to cold temperatures, and weight gain.
  • Heart attack symptoms: chest pain or pressure, spreading pain to your jaw and shoulders, nausea, or sweating.
  • Signs of a blood clot in the lungs: chest pain, sudden cough, and shortness of breath; coughing blood.
  • Signs of a stroke include sudden numbness and weakness, especially on one side; a severe headache or slurred or slurred-up speech; or problems with vision or equilibrium.

Isovue 370 can cause a number of side effects.

  • Chest pain;
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Hot flashes; burning sensation
  • Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly sensation);
  • Nausea;
  • Hives

Warnings

If you are infected with Isovue 370, it should not be given to you.

Before you take this drug

Inform your doctor if any of the following applies to you:

  • Any type of reaction to a contrast agent.
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Heart failure, including congestive heart disease.
  • Stroke, blood clots, or coronary arterial disease.
  • Asthma; hay fever; food allergy
  • Epilepsy
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Diabetes;
  • An active infection
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • Multiple myeloma; bone cancer
  • A thyroid disorder.

Isovue 370 is not known to harm unborn babies. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant. Inform your doctor if breastfeeding is taking place.

How to take Isovue 370?

Isovue 370 is infused into a vein. This injection will be given by a healthcare provider. While receiving Isovue 370, you may receive medication to help prevent certain side effects. If you experience any pain or swelling when Isovue 370 is injected, tell your carers.

Drink more fluids both before and after the radiologic test. Dehydration can be caused by isovue 370, and this can have dangerous effects on the kidneys. You should follow your doctor's advice about how much fluid you need to drink before and after the test.

You may need to take extra care with older adults in order to prevent dehydration. You may need to have your kidney function checked after receiving Isovue 370. Some reactions to Isovue 370 can start 30–60 minutes after the first administration. You may be watched by your carers during this time. You want to be sure that you don't have any side effects or delayed reactions.

You may experience interference with medical tests up to 16 days after taking this medication. Inform any doctor that treats you about the recent use of this medication.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You will not have a schedule of doses since Isovue 370 is only used during radiologic tests.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

You should not become dehydrated in the first few days following Isovue 370. During this period, call your doctor if any diarrhea or nausea occurs. You should follow your doctor's advice on the type and amount of fluids to drink.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your physician of all medications taken, including:
