What is Glasdegib?

Adults can use Glasdegib in combination with Cytarabine for the treatment of acute leukemia. This combination can be used by adults 75 years old or older or those who cannot take chemotherapy because of other medical conditions.Glasdegib can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Glasdegib

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

Glasdegib may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Shortness of breath and sudden dizziness are symptoms that you may experience.
  • Easy bruising, unusual bleeding, or purple or red patches under the skin
  • If you experience any new or worsening muscular pain or muscle cramps,
  • Low blood cell counts: fever; chills; skin and mouth sores. Easy bruising. Unusual bleeding. Pale skin. Cold hands and feet. Feeling light-headed.

If you experience certain side effects, your cancer treatment may be halted or delayed.

Some of the side effects associated with glasdegib include:

  • Bleeding;
  • Fever and low blood cell count
  • Changes in your sense of taste
  • Pain or sores in the mouth or throat
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, constipation
  • Rash;
  • Muscle pain
  • You may experience swelling in your arms or legs.
  • Feeling tired
  • Trouble breathing

Warnings

Do not use it if you are pregnant. Use effective birth control. Men and women who use Glasdegib are advised to use birth control.

Before you take this drug

Inform your physician of any of the following issues:

  • Heart problems
  • Long-QT syndrome
  • An electrolyte imbalance is a low potassium or magnesium blood level.
  • Muscle pain or spasms
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease.

You must take a pregnancy check within seven days after starting treatment with Glasdegib.Can harm an unborn child. A pregnancy test is required to confirm that you are not pregnant. Use birth control during treatment with glasdegib and for 30 days following your last dose. Inform your doctor immediately if you fall pregnant.Do not breastfeed for 30 days after taking this medication.Men who use glasdegib are advised to use condoms throughout the treatment and even after a vasectomie. They should also continue using them for 30 days following treatment.You may find it harder to get pregnant if you use this medication.

How to take Glasdegib?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed.Glasdegib can be given as a 28-day cycle of treatment, which is usually repeated six times. Glasdegib can be taken orally. You will be prescribed glasdegib by your doctor.Take the medication at the same time every day.Do not chew or crush the tablet.Do not take another dose if you vomit soon after taking glasdegib. Do not miss your next scheduled dose.Electrocardiograms (also called EKGs) are used to check the heart's function.Your cancer treatment may be delayed due to the results of your medical tests.Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

Adult dose for acute myeloid leukemia:

In the absence of unacceptable toxicities or loss of disease, 100 mg once daily on days 1 through 28 with 20 mg cytarabine subcutaneously twice a day from days 1 to 10 For patients without unacceptable toxicities, treat for at least 6 cycles in order to allow for clinical response.
Use: This drug is used in combination with low-dose cytarabine to treat newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia in adults who are older than 75 years or have comorbidities that preclude the use of intensive induction therapy.

Usual geriatric dose for acute myeloid leukemia:

75 years and older
In the absence of unacceptable toxicities or loss of disease, 100 mg once daily on days 1 through 28 with 20 mg cytarabine subcutaneously twice a day from days 1 to 10 For patients without unacceptable toxicities, treat for at least 6 cycles in order to allow for a clinical response.
Use: This drug is used in combination with a low-dose of cytarabine to treat newly diagnosed acute myeloid lymphoma (AML) among adult patients aged 75 or older or those who have comorbidities that preclude the use of intensive induction therapy.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose when your next dose is less than 12 hours away. Do not take two doses in a 12-hour period.

What happens if you overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.Overdose symptoms include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. You may also feel like you are about to pass out.

What should be avoided?

Don't donate blood while taking glasdegib and for 30 days after your last dose.Do not donate semen while taking glasdegib and for 30 days following your last dose.

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications at the same time. Some drugs may affect the blood levels of drugs that you are taking, increasing side effects or making them less effective.Glasdegib may cause serious heart problems. This risk is increased if you are also taking certain other medications for asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure, or depression.Other medications, such as vitamins and herbal remedies, may also affect glasdegib. Inform your doctor of all the other medications you take.
