What is Gaviscon?

Gaviscon is an antacid that can reduce the acidity of stomach acid. Gaviscon, also known as a combination medication, is used for treating acid reflux or an upset stomach. The use of Gaviscon can also provide temporary relief for heartburn or acid indigestion due to acid reflux. Gaviscon can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Gaviscon

If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately! Notable side effects of Zovirax medications may include diarrhea. Other side effects may arise. Before you take this drug

If:

  • You have a stomach ulcer.
  • You have difficulty swallowing.
  • You have kidney disease.
  • Are You on a Low Sodium Diet

Before taking this medication if you are pregnant or nursing, consult with your healthcare provider first.

How to take Gaviscon?

Follow all instructions listed on your medicine label or given to you by your healthcare provider. The chewable tablet must be chewed before swallowing. Drink about 4 ounces (or other liquid) of water. Take no more than 16 pills in a 24-hour period. If your symptoms don't improve or you experience acid reflux more than twice a week, call your doctor. You should not take this medication for more than 2 weeks unless you are told by your doctor to do so. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Gaviscon can be used as needed, and you don't need to follow a schedule. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip any missed doses. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect poison exposure and seek immediate medical care.

What should be avoided?

Before taking Gaviscon, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you regularly take other medications. Gaviscon may make it more difficult for your body to absorb other medications you take orally.

Interaction with other drug

Gaviscon may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Informing your physician of all medications you are currently taking and any that are taken or started/stopped taking can ensure effective health management.
