What is Fluticasone nasal?

Fluticasone nasal is a steroid medication used to treat congested, itchy eyes, sneezing, and runny noses caused by seasonal allergies or year-round. Fluticasone nasal Xhance is only for adults. Veramyst can be used by children as young as 2 years of age. Flonase can be used by adults and children over the age of 4. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Fluticasone Nasal.

Side effects of Fluticasone nasal

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives or rash, feeling lightheaded, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, throat, or mouth.

Fluticasone nasal may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Nosebleeds that are severe or persistent
  • Noises in your breathing, runny nasal discharge, or crust around the nostrils
  • Redness, sores, or white patches on your tongue or throat
  • Fever, chills, and body aches
  • Blurred vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights
  • Any wound that does not heal
  • Signs of hormonal disorders include nausea, vomiting, increased tiredness, or a worsening of muscle weakness.

Steroids can have an impact on the growth of children. If your child's growth isn't normal while taking this medication, tell your doctor.

Fluticasone nasal side effects may include:

  • Minor nosebleeds, burning, or itching of the nose
  • Sores or white patches on your nose or inside it
  • Coughing and difficulty breathing
  • Headache, back pain;
  • Symptoms of fever include: sores or sinuses;
  • Nausea, vomiting.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to fluticasone, it is best not to use the nasal spray. Fluticasone may weaken your immunity, increasing your likelihood of contracting an infection. It can also worsen an infection that you have already contracted or had recently. Inform your doctor of any illnesses or infections you've had in the last few weeks.

Do not hesitate to inform your physician of any of the following issues:

  • Sores or ulcers on the inside of your nose
  • You may need surgery or a nose injury.
  • Glaucoma, or cataracts
  • Liver disease
  • Diabetes;
  • A weak immune system
  • Any type of infection, whether bacterial, viral, fungi, or parasitic.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether fluticasone is safe to use if you are using it without a prescription.Inform your physician immediately if you become pregnant or breastfeeding.

How to take Fluticasone nasal?

Take care to read all instructions or guides included with your medication and follow all directions, including those printed on its label. This medicine should never be shared with anyone, even if their symptoms are similar. Fluticasone strength or brand may affect your dose. Your dose may also change if your symptoms improve. Dosing instructions should be followed very closely. An adult should supervise a child who uses nasal spray. Please carefully follow all instructions that accompany your medication, if there are any difficulties understanding them please consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist for advice. If unsure of anything please ask. Before using, be sure to shake up the nasal spray. If you have been taking another steroid medication, do not suddenly stop taking fluticasone; consult with your healthcare provider about lowering the dose gradually. Your symptoms may not improve for several days. Continue to take the medication according to instructions, and inform your doctor if you do not see improvement after one week. Fluticasone nasal should be stored upright at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. After using 120 sprays of the nasal spray, throw away the bottle, even if the medicine is still in it.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for rhinitis:
Fluticasone Furoate: Spray 2 sprays (27,5 mcg/spray), once daily in each nostril.
Fluticasone Propionate: Spray 1 or 2 times (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril, once daily as needed.
Comments:

When maximum benefit is achieved and symptoms are controlled, it may be beneficial to reduce the dose to 55 mcg (one spray in each nostril) once per day.
Use: Treatment for seasonal and persistent allergic rhinorhinitis
The usual pediatric dose for rhinitis is:
From 2 to 11 years:
Fluticasone Furoate: Spray 27.5 mcg/spray in each nostril, once per day.
From 4 to 11 years:
Fluticasone Propionate: Spray 50 mcg/spray in each nostril, once per day.
Twelve years of age or older
Fluticasone Furoate: Spray 2 sprays (27,5 mcg/spray), once daily in each nostril.
Fluticasone Propionate: Spray 1 or 2 times (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril, once daily as needed.

Fluticasone Furoate
Children between the ages of 2 and 11 who do not respond to 55 mcg can use 110 mcg (two sprays per nostril).
When maximum benefit is achieved and symptoms are controlled, it may be beneficial to reduce the dose to 55 mcg (one spray in each nostril).

What happens if I miss the dose?

If it is nearly time for your next dose, do not take the missed one.Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. A fluticasone nasal overdose is unlikely to cause life-threatening symptoms. Long-term use of steroids may result in glaucoma and cataracts.They may also lead to increased acne, facial hair, or changes in body weight (especially on the face, neck, waist, back, or shoulders).

What should be avoided?

Avoid spraying the spray into your eyes or mouth. If you do get the spray in your eyes or mouth, rinse it out with water. Avoid being around people who are sick. If you have been exposed to measles or chickenpox, call your doctor immediately for treatment. Fluticasone nasal users can suffer from serious conditions or even die.

Interaction with other drug

Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including:

  • Antifungal medicine;
  • Antiviral medication to treat hepatitis C or HIV/AIDS.
