What is Flura-Tab?

Flura-Tab contains a substance that strengthens the enamel of teeth, preventing dental caries. Fluoride is present in low levels (less than 0.06 parts per million) in the drinking water of people who are at risk of tooth decay. Flura-Tab can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Flura-Tab

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical help immediately!

Flura-Tab may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Very upset stomach
  • Vomiting and nausea.
  • Any changes to the appearance of teeth, such as staining or pitting,

Your individual may experience less severe side effects or none at all. There may be other side effects. If experiencing these, seek medical advice immediately from your healthcare provider; otherwise call 1-800-FDA-1088 to report adverse reactions.

Before you take this drug

If the fluoride level in your water exceeds 0.6 parts per billion (ppb), you should not use Flura Tab. You can contact your local water provider to determine the fluoride content in your water. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can provide you with information on the Flura Tab content of water in the United States.

If you:

  • Have you ever had sores, ulcers, or any other problems in your mouth?
  • You are pregnant or nursing.

How to take Flura-Tab?

Read and comply with all instructions or guides that come with your medication. Follow the directions on the label. The doses of Flura-Tab are determined by your age and the amount of this medicine in your water. You do not have to take Flura Tab if your water contains more than 0.6 ppm fluoride. Follow all instructions carefully when administering this medicine to your child. Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use the provided dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon) to measure liquid medicine. You can take Flura-Tab drops undiluted or mix them with food or liquid. This mixture can be consumed immediately. You should not store it for future use. You can dissolve or chew the chewable tablet in your mouth prior to swallowing it. This medicine is best taken at night after brushing your teeth.

After taking Flura Tab, do not rinse your mouth or eat anything. Flura-Tab is best taken regularly for maximum benefit. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If it is nearly time for your next dose, do not take an extra one now. Instead, wait a little bit and take only what is due. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. The symptoms of an overdose may include burning in the mouth, pain on your tongue, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.

What should be avoided?

Flura-Tab should not be taken within an hour of taking it. Avoid calcium-fortified drinks for at least 1 hour after taking Flura-Tab. Use only the laxatives or antacids that your doctor has prescribed. Some laxatives and antacids contain an ingredient that can inhibit your body's ability to absorb Flura Tab.

Interaction with other drug

Flura-Tab can be less effective if taken with certain medicines. Take this medicine 1 hour before taking any of the medicines listed below:

  • An antacid;
  • A laxative;
  • A mineral or multivitamin supplement that contains magnesium, calcium, or aluminum

Flura-Tab may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
