Empagliflozin, Lingliptin, and metformin (Trijardy XR) are combination medications that are used in conjunction with exercise and diet to help improve blood sugar control in people suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus.Trijardy XR can also be used to reduce the chance of death from stroke, heart attack, or heart failure in people who suffer from type 2 diabetes and also suffer from heart disease.Trijardy XR does not work as a suitable treatment for treating type 1 diabetes.Empagliflozin, Lingliptin, and metformin are also used for other purposes that are not mentioned in this medication guide.

Side effects of Empagliflozin, Lingliptin, and Metformin

Seek medical attention immediately. Before you take this drug

It is not recommended to use empagliflozin, linagliptin, or metformin if you have an allergy to empagliflozin, linagliptin, or metformin. Also, if you are suffering from

  • Severe kidney-related disease (or if you're dialysis-dependent);
  • A history of a severe allergic or skin reaction following the use of linagliptin or
  • Metabolic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment).

How to take  Empagliflozin, Lingliptin, and Metformin?

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Diabetes Type 2:

Make an individualized dose based on the patient's current regimen.
For patients taking metformin, whether with or without linagliptin, begin using a dose similar to that of metformin together with empagliflozin (10 mg) and linagliptin (5 mg) orally at least once per day.
For patients taking metformin and any regimen containing empagliflozin, including or not containing linagliptin: Begin with a similar dosage of metformin. It is the exact empagliflozin dose, and linagliptin (5 mg) is taken orally every day.
Assess the effectiveness and tolerability of the medication and adjust the dosage as needed so as not to exceed the doses allowed by law.
Empagliflozin may be administered up to 25 mg daily; Linagliptin 5 mg; Metformin 2000 mg.
Comments:
If used in conjunction with the hormone insulin or an insulin secretagogue, a lower dosage of insulin or an insulin secretagogue must be considered to decrease the risk of hypoglycemia.
Correct volume loss prior to starting treatment.
It is not recommended for patients suffering from type 1 diabetes mellitus. It may cause a higher risk for ketoacidosis among these patients.
This drug has not been evaluated in patients who have a history of pancreatitis. Consequently, it is not known whether patients with a history of pancreatitis may be at greater risk of developing pancreatitis after taking this medication.
