What is Eluxadoline?
Eluxadoline is a medication used to treat IBS, also known as irritable intestinal syndrome, when the most prominent manifestation is the symptom of diarrhea.Eluxadoline is also used for reasons not mentioned in this medication guide.
Side effects of Eluxadoline
Contact a medical professional immediately. If you are experiencing symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling of your lips, face, tongue, throat, or face,Stop taking eluxadoline and call your doctor right away. If you are suffering from:
- Acute or new stomach discomfort (may be serious);
- Vomiting, as well as nausea and vomiting;
- Serious constipation;
- Constipation that lasts more than 4 days
- Intense discomfort in your stomach, which can spread into your back.
Some side effects are more likely to appear among older individuals.Common negative effects of eluxadoline include:
- Constipation;
- Nausea;
- Stomach pain.

Warnings
It is not recommended to use eluxadoline if you suffer from an underlying pancreas disease, serious liver illness, alcoholism or a blockage of your intestines, gallbladder disease, or if the gallbladder in your body has been removed.Eluxadoline can result in pancreatitis or constipation that could be serious or even result in hospitalization. Contact your physician immediately in the event of chronic or persistent constipation or intense discomfort in your stomach that is spreading into your lower back (with or without vomiting and nausea).
Before you take this drug
It is not recommended to use eluxadoline if there is an allergy to the substance or you are suffering from
- A blockage or severe constipation within your intestines.
- An underlying gallbladder problem, or if the gallbladder of your body has been removed.
- Digestive issues result from a valve in the muscle known as the sphincter of Oddi (SFINK-ter of Od-dee);
- Serious liver diseases;
- A pancreas disorder;
- The practice of having more than three daily alcoholic drinks.
Speak to your doctor if you have ever suffered from:
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease (or kidney disease if you're taking dialysis).
Inform your doctor immediately if you are breastfeeding or pregnant.Eluxadoline is not a drug that has been approved to be used by anyone younger than 18 years old.
How to take Eluxadoline?
Follow all the instructions on the prescription label and study all medication guides or instructions sheets. The doctor might alter your dosage. Follow the medication exactly as prescribed.Eluxadoline can be a habit-forming drug. Use can lead to addiction or overdose. It can also cause death. Selling or giving away eluxadoline is against the law.Take it along with food.Eluxadoline could cause pancreatitis or constipation, which can be serious or even result in hospitalization. Usual Adult Dose for Irritable Bowel Syndrome:
Usual dosage: 100 mg every day, twice
Comments:
The dose should be lowered to 75 mg two times a day for those who are unable to take the usual dosage.
If severe constipation occurs, this medication must be stopped.
Use: In the treatment of irritable bowel disease with diarrhea.
What happens if I miss the dose?
You should take the medication as quickly as you are able, but avoid your missed dosage if it's close to the time of the next dose. Don't have two doses at one time.

What should be avoided?
Do not drink alcohol. It can increase the chance of having pancreas problems.Do not take anti-diarrhea medicines like loperamide (Imodium) without your doctor's guidance. Long-term use of loperamide when you're taking eluxadoline could cause severe constipation.
Interaction with other drug
Discuss with your doctor your other medications, including:
- Alosetron or any other medication used to manage irritable bowel syndrome
- Opioid pain medicine;
- Medication for treating depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and mental illness
- Cold or allergy medicine (Benadryl and other brands);
- Medicines used to cure the symptoms of Parkinson's disease;
- Medication to treat stomach issues, motion sickness, or an irritable bowel disorder;
- Medication to treat the overactive bladder medicine to treat overactive bladders
- Bronchodilator aspirin medication
