What is Edetate, Calcium, and Disodium?
Edetate calcium disodium is the chelating (KEE-late-ing) substance that has the ability to take heavy metals out of the blood.Edetate calcium disodium is a treatment for lead poisoning.Edetate calcium disodium can also be used to treat conditions that aren't mentioned in this guideline.
Side effects of Edetate, Calcium, and Disodium

Contact your family caregivers right away in the event that you are suffering from:
- Minimal or no urination
- Lightheadedness, or feeling as though one is about to faint.
- Tingling sensations or numbness
- Urine that is red or pink
- Being extremely thirsty;
- Fever and colds; pale skin easily bruises.
The calcium disodium in edetate could cause toxic effects on the body. This can cause serious medical issues. Call your doctor immediately if you experience mental problems, mood swings, difficulty concentrating, changes in your mental or behavioral state, or if you are feeling angry.
Common adverse effects of edetate calcium disodium can be:
- Pain where the medicine was injected
- Fever, chills, tiredness, general ill feeling;
- Muscles or joint discomfort;
- Headache, tremors;
- Vomiting, vomiting thirst, lack of appetite.
- Sneezing and stuffy noses, or eyes that are watery,
- Mild skin rash.

How to take Edetate, Calcium, and Disodium?
Edetate calcium disodium may be injectable into muscles or as an injection into the vein. Your healthcare provider can provide the injection.In the event of injection into an IV vein, edetate calcium disodium should be administered slowly by an IV infusion. It could take as long as 12 hours to be completed.It is important to have regular tests to ensure that you're getting enough urine. Edetate calcium disodium could affect your kidneys.The heart's function could require a check with an electrocardiograph, or ECG (sometimes referred to as the EKG).A child being treated with edetate calcium disodium might require x-rays to assist the doctor in determining what amount of lead is present throughout the body.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Since you'll receive edetate calcium disodium within the clinical setting, it is unlikely that you will not take the dosage.

What should be avoided?
Follow the instructions of your physician regarding any limitations on foods, drinks, or activities.
Interaction with other drugs
Other medications can affect the edetate calcium disodium. This includes medications that are prescribed and available over the counter, vitamins, and herbal remedies. Discuss with your physician all the medications you currently use as well as any medications you are about to start or stop taking.
