What is Duvelisib?

Duvelisib can be used as a treatment for adults who have chronic lymphocytic leukemia or small lymphocytic leukemia. Duvelisib can also be used to treat follicular lymphoma. Duvelisib should only be given if at least two other chemotherapy regimens have failed or stopped working. Duvelisib may be used in other ways that aren't covered in its medication guide.

Side effects of Duvelisib

If you experience symptoms of an allergy, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling on your face and throat, or severe skin reactions like a fever, a sore throat, burning eyes,If you experience blisters or peeling skin, seek medical assistance immediately.

Duvelisib may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe diarrhea is defined as more than six bowel movements per day.
  • Severe stomach pain or new diarrhea accompanied by blood or mucus
  • Liver problems: dark urine (on the upper right), jaundice (yellowing skin or eyes).
  • Low blood counts can cause fever, fatigue, sores on the lips, feet, and hands, and unusual bleeding or bruising.

If you experience certain side effects, your cancer treatment may be permanently stopped or delayed.

Duvelisib can cause side effects such as:

  • Diarrhea, nausea;
  • Low blood cell counts
  • Bone pain, muscle pain;
  • Fever, cough, tiredness;
  • Cold symptoms like stuffy noses, sneezing, and a sore throat.

Warnings

Duvelisib may cause severe or even fatal side effects. These include serious skin infections, diarrhea, or other serious infections.

If you experience symptoms like this, call your doctor immediately.

  • Fever, chills, and breathing difficulties
  • Severe stomach pain with diarrhea accompanied by blood or mucus
  • A painful sore on the mouth or skin that is blistered or peeling

Before you take this drug

If you've ever:

  • Ulcerative colitis is an example of a digestive disorder.
  • Lung disease;
  • Liver Disease.

Women and men who use duvelisib are advised to avoid pregnancy by using effective birth control.Drug use by either mother or father during gestation could potentially cause birth defects for their unborn baby, including damage. Continue to use birth control at least one month after you have taken your last dose. If you or your partner become pregnant while taking duvelisib, tell your doctor immediately. Do not breastfeed your baby for at least one month following the last dose.

How to take Duvelisib?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all the directions. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Duvelisib can be taken with or without food. Duvelisib can be taken either with or without food. Do not open, crush, chew on or break the capsule. Duvelisib can cause life-threatening diarrhea. Take any necessary medication as soon as possible in order to treat or prevent diarrheal illness. Other medications may also be recommended by your physician to minimize potential serious side effects, and you must continue taking them exactly as recommended by them. You will be required to undergo frequent tests, and your doctor will have to monitor you regularly. The results may delay your cancer treatment. Keep the capsules at room temperature and away from heat, moisture, or humidity.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for chronic lymphocytic leukemia:
Take 25mg orally twice a day for 28 days until there is no more tolerance or disease progression.
Comments:
If you miss a dose by less than six hours, it is important to take that dose immediately.
Take the next dose. Wait at least 6 hours before taking the next dose if a missed dose has been more than six hours.
Take the next dose as usual.
Provide a prophylactic treatment for Pneumocystis jirovecii during the course of therapy.
Patients with suspected PJP, regardless of grade, should be held off therapy. If confirmed, the patient's treatment must stop.
Consider prophylactic antivirals to treat cytomegalovirus during treatment.
(CMV) infection/reactivation.
Uses: To treat adult patients who have relapsed, refractory, or relapsed chronic lymphocytic (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma after two prior treatments.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you miss a dose, take it immediately; however if more than six hours have elapsed since its scheduled time then that dose should be skipped and only take the one at a time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions on foods, drinks, or activities, follow their instructions.

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain drugs at the same time. Some medications can cause side effects that increase or decrease the effectiveness of another drug you are taking. Duvelisib may interact with other drugs, such as prescription medicines, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
