What is Duravent PE?

Duravent PE, also known as a combination medication, is used to treat allergy symptoms in both adults and children, including runny or stuffy nasal passages, sneezing, and watery eyes. It can also be used to relieve chest congestion due to the common flu or allergies. This leaflet does not list all the brands or forms of phenylephrine. Duravent PE can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Duravent PE

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

Duravent PE can cause serious side effects. Duravent PE should be stopped immediately, and you should consult your doctor if:

  • Nervousness, dizziness, and sleep problems (insomnia).

Warnings

Duravent PE should not be used if an MAO inhibitor has been taken in the last 14 days. A dangerous drug-drug interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), methylene blue injection, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine. Duravent PE will not be more effective if you take more than the recommended dosage. It may also cause serious side effects.

Before you take this drug

Duravent PE should not be used if an MAO inhibitor has been taken in the last 14 days. It is possible that a dangerous drug interaction will occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), methylene blue injection (phenelzine), and tranylcypromine. You must wait at least 14 days after you have stopped taking an MAO inhibitor to take this medication.

Inform your physician of any of the following issues:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes;
  • A thyroid disorder
  • Prostatic hypertrophy can cause urination issues.
  • Chronic coughs are caused by smoking, copd, asthma, or other breathing disorders.

Before using this medication, ask your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing. Do not administer this medicine to an infant without consulting with their physician first.

How to take Duravent PE ?

Follow the instructions on the label or those prescribed by your physician. Cold and cough medicines are only to be used for a short time. Duravent PE should be administered to children according to the instructions. Never use this medicine to put a child to sleep. Use the measuring device provided for accurate liquid medication measurements (not spoon). Take one tablet along with a glass of full water for best results. Your dose requirements could change when switching brands, strengths or forms of medicine; adhere to what the label or doctor says when taking medication as directed. Use the medication exactly as directed by the label or your doctor. If you take more than the recommended dosage, this medication will not be as effective and can cause serious side effects. If your symptoms don't improve or worsen after seven days, or you have headaches, a rash, or a fever, stop using the medicine and contact your doctor. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Duravent PE can be used as needed. You should not take any missed doses if you have a regular dosing regimen. Never use two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

Before taking any other cold or cough medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist if they contain similar ingredients.

Interaction with other drug

Before taking any other medications that may cause sleepiness, such as opioids, muscle relaxers, sleep medication, medicine for anxiety, or seizure medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Inform your physician of all medications taken, including prescribed and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal products - this list may not cover every potential interaction.
