What is Diamode?

Diamode treats diarrhea. Diamode can also be used by people with ileostomies (a rerouting of the intestinal tract through an opening surgically made in the stomach). Diamode can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of Diamode

If you experience symptoms of an allergy (hives) or a skin reaction that is severe (fever or sore throat with burning eyes, rashes or blisters, or a red or purple skin rash), then seek emergency medical attention.

Diamode should be stopped immediately, and you need to call your doctor if:

  • Diarrhoea that is bloody or watery
  • Stomach pain or bloating
  • Diarrhoea that is persistent or getting worse
  • You may experience rapid or pounding pulses, shortness of breath, and dizziness.

Diamode can cause the following side effects:

  • Constipation;
  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Nausea;
  • Stomach cramps.

There may be other side effects. Call your physician immediately if experiencing side effects; alternatively you can report these side effects directly through FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Warnings

Diamode should be avoided if you suffer from ulcerative colitis or have bloody, tarry, or bloody stools. You shouldn't use Diamode if your diarrhea is accompanied by a fever or caused by anti-biotic medications. Diamode can be used safely when it is taken as prescribed.Overdosage of LOPERAMIDE may lead to serious heart complications or even cause death. Diamode can cause serious heart problems if taken with other medications. You can ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice on how to safely use medications. Never give Diamode as a medicine to children younger than two years of age.

Before you take this drug

Diamode should be avoided if:

  • Stomach pain without diarrhea
  • A high fever and diarrhea
  • Colitis ulcerative
  • An infection can cause diarrhea.
  • Stools that are black or bloody

Diamode is not recommended for treating diarrhea that occurs after taking antibiotics (Clostridium difficile). Never give Diamode without a doctor's approval to children or teens older than two years.

Diamode is not recommended for those with:

  • A fever
  • Mucus in the stools
  • Liver Disease
  • A heart rhythm disorder.

Pregnant women must check with their physician prior to taking this medication. Diamode should be used only when breastfeeding is not possible.

How to take Diamode?

Follow the instructions on the packaging or those prescribed by your physician. Diamode can be used safely when it is taken as prescribed. Overdosage of LOPERAMIDE may lead to serious heart complications or even fatal outcomes. Follow the directions provided on Diamode's label when giving it to children. The safe dosage of loperamide for adults is different from the dose for children. Diamode should be taken with water. Diarrhea may cause electrolytes and fluids to be lost. Be sure to drink plenty of water to avoid becoming dehydrated. Diamode tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Before measuring a dosage, shake the orally suspended liquid. You can use the syringe that comes with your medicine or a dose-measuring device. All liquid loperamides have different strengths. Follow all instructions on the medication you're using. Keep the liquid medicine at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Don't allow liquid medicines to freeze. Diamode should be stopped, and you need to call your doctor immediately if diarrhea persists after two days or you have also developed stomach bloating.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Diamode does not require a schedule of daily dosages because it is only used as needed. If your symptoms don't improve after taking Diamode, call your doctor.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. A loperamide overdose can prove fatal. An overdose can cause fast heartbeats or irregular rhythms. If you are unable to awaken after passing out, someone caring for you needs to seek immediate medical care.

What should be avoided?

Do not drink tonic water. This can cause heart problems and interact with Diamode. Drink plenty of water to avoid becoming dehydrated. If you're dehydrated, avoid vigorous exercise and hot weather. Diamode can affect your reactions. Avoid dangerous activities until you are sure of how they will impact you. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

Using certain drugs together can be dangerous. Some medications can alter the blood level of another drug you are taking. You can ask your doctor or pharmacist how to safely use medications. Diamode may cause serious heart problems. You may have a higher risk if you are also taking certain medicines to treat infections, heart disease, depression, mental illnesses, cancer, HIV, malaria, or HIV. Diamode can be affected by many drugs. These include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. This list does not include all interactions. Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking and those that you will stop or start using.
