What is Devil's claw?

Devil's claw is an herb also known as Garra del Diablo, Grapple Plant, Griffe du Diable, Harpagophyti Radix, Harpagophytum, Harpagophytum procumbens, Harpagophytum zeyheri, Racine de Griffe du Diable, Racine de Windhoek, Teufelskrallenwurzel, Uncaria procumbens, or Wood Spider. Devil's Claw is used as an alternative remedy for back pain and arthritis. Devil's Claw is often given with NSAIDs (nonsteroidal pain relievers) like aspirin (Advil), ibuprofen, naproxen, Diclofenac, and Indomethacin. Some other uses that have not been proven by research include rheumatoid arthritis, muscular pain, gout, and skin problems. There is no way to know if the devil's paw is effective for treating medical conditions. The FDA has not approved the use of devil's claw for medical purposes. Devil's Claw should never be substituted for medication that you have been prescribed by your physician. Devil's claw can be sold as an herbal supplement. Many herbal supplements are not manufactured to a standard and have even been found to be contaminated by toxic metals or drugs. To minimize contamination, herbal or health supplements must be bought from a reputable source. Devil's claw can be used for other purposes than those mentioned in the product guide.
