What is DayQuil Mucus Control DM?
Dextromethorphan works as a cough suppressant. Guaifenesin works as an expectorant. Mucus Control is a combination medication used to treat chest congestion and coughs caused by the cold. Dextromethorphan does not work to treat coughs caused by tobacco. This leaflet does not list all the brands or forms available. DayQuil Mucus Control can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.
Side Effects of DayQuil Mucus Control DM
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue
DayQuil Mucus Control can cause severe side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:
- Mood changes
- Headache or severe
- Feeling like you could pass out or dizziness;
Side effects that may occur with DayQuil Mucus Control MD include:
- Dizziness, drowsiness;
- Sleep problems (insomnia);
- Diarrhea;
- Feeling nervous, restless, or anxious

Warnings
If you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days (such as isocarboxazid or linezolid), avoid using this medication.
Before you take this drug
You should not take DayQuil Mucus ControlDM if MAO-inhibitors have been taken in the last 14 days. A dangerous medication interaction may occur. The MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (tranylcypromine), rasagiline (selegiline), methylene blue injection, and phenelzine.
If you suffer from:
- A cough that produces mucus
- Asthma, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis.
Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. The medicine you are taking may contain phenylalanine. If you have phenylketonuria, check the label of your medication.
How to take DayQuil Mucus Control DM?
Follow all directions outlined on your package or those prescribed by a healthcare professional. Use cold or cough medicines only as needed until symptoms have cleared up. Follow the directions provided on the label when giving a cough medicine or cold medication to your child. Never use cough and cold medicine to put a young child to sleep. Measuring liquid medication is important. Dose liquid medicine with the provided syringe or a dose-measuring device. (Not a spoon.) It may be necessary to shake the liquid prior to measuring a dosage. Please follow all instructions listed on your packaging. Do not chew or crush the Extended-Release Tablet. The granules can be sprinkled directly on your tongue. Swallow immediately. While taking this medication, drink extra liquids to loosen congestion and lubricate the throat. If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days or you experience a high fever, skin rash, or headaches, call your doctor. Tell the doctor if this medication has been taken within the last few days and if you are going to need any kind of surgery. Keep away from heat and moisture at room temperature.
What happens if I miss the dose?
DayQuil Mucus Control is taken as needed, and there may be no dosing regimen. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip any missed doses. Never take two doses in one go.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 if you suspect being poisoned and seek immediate medical care or call 800-222-1222 if the poison may already have entered the system.
What should be avoided?
Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how DayQuil Mucus Control will affect you. You may be unable to react properly. Alcohol consumption can have side effects when taken with this medication. Before using any other cold or cough medicines, ask your doctor before you use them. They may have similar ingredients.
Interaction with other drug
Use this medication with caution if you are taking other medications that can cause sleepiness, slow breathing, or cause nausea (such as an opioid, muscle relaxers, medicine to treat anxiety, or a seizure). Before using this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you also use any other medications, such as prescription medicines and over-the-counter drugs. When used in combination, some medicines may cause harmful or unwanted effects. This medication guide does not list all interactions.
