What is Citracal + D?

Calcium is an essential mineral for the body's many functions, including bone formation and maintenance. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium more easily. Citracal + D can be used to prevent or treat a calcium shortage. Many brands and forms of calcium and vitamin D are available.This leaflet does not list all brands. Citracal +D may be used in other ways not mentioned in this medication guide.

Side effects of Citracal +D

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat. If you notice any of the following signs that your body has too much calcium, call your doctor immediately.

  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation;
  • Increased thirst or urination
  • Muscle weakness and bone pain
  • Feeling tired, confused, or lacking energy?

Citracal +D may cause the following side effects:

  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Weakness, drowsiness, headache;
  • Dry lips or metallic taste in the mouth
  • Muscle or bone pain

Before you take this drug

If you are suffering from:

  • Kidney disease
  • Kidney stone
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer;
  • High levels of calcium in the blood
  • Circulation problems
  • Parathyroid disorder.

Consult your doctor before using the product if you are pregnant or nursing.

How to take Citracal+D?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use the recommended dose and do not exceed it. Citracal+D products are labelled with instructions on whether they should be taken in conjunction with food or not. Take the tablet along with a glass of water. Chew the chewable tablet before swallowing it. No longer chew or crush the extended-release tablets. Take it as a whole. Calcium and vitamin D are just two components of an overall treatment program that includes diet changes. Discover which food sources contain both minerals. As your diet shifts, the dosage of your supplement could require adjustments. You should follow your doctor's advice. Store at room temperature away from any direct heat or moisture sources.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two doses of any medicine at the same time. This could result in overdose.

What happens if I overdose?

Contact 1-800-222-1222 immediately in case of poisoning and seek immediate medical care.

What should be avoided?

Before taking any antacids, multivitamins, or mineral supplements while taking Citracal+D, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Interaction with other drug

Take Citracal + D at least two hours before taking any other medication or four to six hours after. Citracal plus D may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
